Hello everyone,

I am embarking on my first tail making experience and I have decided to use large round sequins for my scales (holographic and clear coated to reduce wear and fade). Has anyone used sequins that weren't the shell shapes? I love them, but to get them here would cost a small fortune that I just don't have!

I agree! Getting anything sent to Australia from elsewhere is way too expensive!

I just bought 4 packets of sequins from the beading shop up the road. 10mm.

They look like this... http://www.michaels.com/craft-basics/sequins/834499269

It's crazy right? I can only seem to find the shell ones in 20-50 sequin lots and that costs at least $15 to get here....times that by how many I need and it's ridiculous! I ended up going with the ones below. I got a few lots of three different colours, which should hopefully be enough. I know they won't be great for swimming, but I plan to dip them in mod podge type stuff to coat them and make them a bit more solid...I hope anyway! It will be a lot of work, but I think I will enjoy it (I am crazy like that! I love a challenge!).

Mermaid Galene made one with round sequins, and it's gorgeous.
