Hello
I've started making my first silicone mermaid tail :)
I made last summer fabric tail, which was nice, but I was dreaming about real look silicon tail. Now I wish my dreams come true :D
I have already made scale sheet and plaster mold of scales. I made also clay mold of my fluke and I think today I will make plaster mold of the fluke.
I was making a short movies about it, to make mermaid tail making tutorial, especially for people in my country (Poland), beause it isn't easy to find here the same components for silicone tail, which most of mermaids use. The shipping from US to Europe will cost a lot, and I have small budget for this project so I spend a lot of time reading about tailmaking and looking for similar ingredients here, which don't ruine platinium cure silicone.
Keep your fingers crossed for my project! :)

That's looking promising!
How is mermaiding in Poland?
I'm currently looking into moving there, and I haven't found many pools that are deep.
Of course there are loads of nice lakes and rivers, but I need an all-year-round option :D
You're the first mer I know of from Poland.
Why don't you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about it?
We also have an Euro Pod!

I'm just starting with something like proffesional mermaiding
Well, technically in Poland there is no mermaiding, but I want to change it :) I know about only one more people except me who's a merman. Near me there aren't deep pools. I practice swimming on regular pool, and on holidays travel to hotter countries to swimm in the sea.

My plaster fluke mold is ready :D I was so scared about the clay get stuck in plaster because I forgot to use release agent. Fortunately it doesn't stuck at all! Now I must wait for silicone delivery. Meantime I will practise painting with airbrush and design tail pattern.

It is indeed a lovely fluke,
but it does look somewhat similar, if not copied, from Finfolk Productions Calypso Fluke;
36784
I don't mind you using the fluke,
but I do think you should ask them if they think it is allright for you to use their design for your own personal tail.

Yes, I was basing on this fluke, I love this shape. I thought if it's not for commercial use but only for me, I can base on this pattern.

I think about copyright trough and you are right, I will wrote to Finfolk for permision to use this. I wish it don't bother them, I will don't sell this fluke, only personal use.

You clearly have sculpting talents - that looks great. I would definitely check first wth the orginal artist though.

Copying a design for personal use, there isn't anything they can do about it. If you were selling it then it would be a copyright issue, but I think you are ok for personal use. It's still nice to ask the original designer though.

Honestly, unless the design owners (in this case Finfolk) give you permission to use their Loreena pattern, I wouldn't use it. The fact that you aren't selling the design doesn't make it any less of a copy. I know I felt hurt when someone copied one of my designs.

I wrote to finfolk, they don't reply already but I've change my mind. Regardless what they tell me, I've decided to do design my own shape. It will be great to create pattern from the beginning to the end. The sculpting was so much fun.
I can't wait to go back from work and started designing.

ye now, that's a pity.
If you live anywhere near Poznan or Koscierzyna, that's the two deeper pools I've been able to find.
Still, nothing beats a tropical sea.

That's an awesome fishfluke for inspiration! With your sculpting talent it will look amazing! :D
(p.s. I just thought I better inform you about using other already existing flukes as your inspriration.
The line between inpiration and copying is really thin in the Mercommunity :)
and some people are really defensive over their designs.
I know I am sometimes ;)
which is why I have never shown my dreamtail design here)

Thank you for reprimand me about using someone's pattern, it really help me a lot. When I've used Finfolks shape I wasn't thinking about it through. Now I also think it wasn't fair to the Finfolk. I was too rushing and choose the easy way because I have never done something like this before.
Now I'm designing the shape and I can't wait when I will have time to start sculpting again :)

Finally I've designed my fluke! As the inspiration I've used the Queen Triger fish fluke but I want it to have more details and look more complicated since I realized that scuplting wasn't so hard to me. I also had to extend the base of the fluke so that the monofin can fit in. My boyfriend helped me to transfer the sketch to graphic program. I hope that after work we find time to start sculpting again! :D

Hi!
I didn't upload new posts for long time because I was busy starting with my facebook page. When it will be finished I will show off :)
Meanwhile I've made plaster mold of the fluke. In the photos it looks great but there are bubbles in some places :/ Maybe I will spackle them with thick plaster.
The silicone doesn't arrive yet, I'm waiting for delivery for about month and it's unknown when it will be in my house :(
But on the other side I will have time to practice painting with an airbrush :) I've never used it before, it will be a challenge!
