I was coming home from Saskatoon (in Saskatchewan, central Canada) last week, and Saskatoon had a smoky haze all over it (Saskatoon is 600 km from Fort McMurray, Alberta, where massive forest fires broke out.)

In the airport I sat across from a guy whose family had immigrated from Syria. He had been working in the coutryside outside Fort McMurray & living in a company residence. He had to flee the fire wearing just the clothes he had on. He only had his wallet and phone, everything else including his laptop got burned up. He's laid off from his job until the fires are over and the company can restart operations, and they were sending him back to stay with his family in Toronto.

The fires should serve as a reminder to take nothing in life for granted. Love your family and friends while you and they are still together (even the ones who have trouble accepting the fact that you're a finned freak of nature-LOL :) )

On another note, in England Nigel Walker, the guy who founded the company Radical Rubber, died in his sleep on the weekend at the age of 59. They still don't know why. Radical Rubber makes the rubber sheeting an acquaintance of mine uses to make mermaid tails, and other items. There are no guarantees in this world.

Carpe diem, fellow mers . . . grab that carp and diem it to the max, while life and love are still in your hands . . .
