So I have a sequin neoprene tail and I love the way the sequins actually feel like scales! The only thing that gives away the fact that I'm not actually a fish is that the scales aren't slimy. I was wondering if anyone knew of a cheap material that I could put on the tail that is safe for neoprene and would give the scales a slippery fish feel!!! Thanks!

What an interesting idea! I've been wondering if there's any kind of coat that could be slimed/sprayed on to protect the delicate finishes of the sequins, too. All's I know is that silicone won't work. But I don't know any other kind of material that would.

Nope. I've been researching this for years.

That is, unless you want to spread oil all over your tail.

I bet pools would LOVE that!
Bonus: people can just slide you from the locker room into the pool.

It's just one of those things you can't have as a mer.

The closest I can think of is Teflon film. It has an odd, slippery, oily feel, but may not be just what you are looking for.

Incidentally, I've been looking for something similar, as I'm building a moveable landtail, which is supposed to slither behind me.
I'm searching for things I could put on the parts of the tail that will slide on the ground so the tail doesn't get damaged from being dragged over rough ground with higher speed.

I'm going to look into Teflon film now.
Hopefully it's not horribly expensive :p

Teflon may get scratched. Another somewhat slippery, but hard, material is anodized Aluminum. Sequins are made from it.

Most contemporary sequins are made from PVC, often with a mylar coating to look metallic. You might be able to find metal ones, but they would be vintage.

whatever I wrap the tail end in must be translucent.
I've been thinking of shelf liner, but I'm not sure it will stay on when put under pressure and speed.
