View Full Version : stiffest silicone? mixing weights/hardness of silicone pieces

Hi ladies and gents,

I'm working on version 2.0 of my headfin piece (wish i had thought to take pics but i'll have to do that later)... here's the trouble that I am having:

version 1 was done in latex, which is lighter than silicone but also less floppy so the fin is stiffer than I would like, BUT the adhesive I have to stick it to my head worked great.

version 2 i did in silicone which gives great movement since the fin is more floppy, but it weighs more. I used a sample kit which says it has shore hardness 2A (?). what is happening is that the base (the part glued to my scalp) also stretches as the fin moves around. So the weight of the fin stretches the base and it pulls off the adhesive. I *think* if i could get the base part stiffer, the glue would hold just fine. So, what's the stiffest gauge of dragonskin? and can you easily stick harder rubber to soft?

How wide is the base of the fin? it may help keep it stay adhered if you tapper the base out more.
