I hope this is the right place to ask but I've been looking at fabric tails and I was wondering what kind of monofin everyone uses in there fabric tails. I don't really care for the round ones cause it will make the fluke rounded and floppy on the sides.
This is what I've came across that I like. Just not to sure about the monofin
The monofin pictured comes with the tailhttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160525/fd7e78df0badd9a0f7808c7c9b208870.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160525/5652ef85723f5e5aa38814498922c292.jpg

I use the Mahina Merfin as I love the look the fluke gives my tail being designed to look really Mermaidy! And I would highly recommend it :) You can see mine in the Show us your tails thread :)

I have a Sun Tail adult monofin. Its the comfiest one so far for my odd size feet. One foot is larger than the other!

I currently have a Fin Fun tail, which is shaped almost exactly like that 2nd girl's tail pictured above. As a recreational fin I really love it, it is really comfortable and fits all sized feet, has a reasonable amount of power for a small fin and is also quite sturdy (has not bent out of shape despite numerous times me accidentally over bending the fin when I go to stand up in the pool). Because quite a few other tail makers also make their tails practically the same shape (such as Magictails, Suntails and a few others), I can order just the skin of those other tails and it will fit over my Fin Fun monofin.
I have also just ordered a larger fibreglass monofin from Special Fins for ocean swimming, and when I get it I intend to sew my own fabric tail to cover it and make it look more of a mermaid tail shape.

I've used the Mahina fin in about 5 tails now (I made Sarina's tail) and I've loved it everytime.

It all depends on what you want and what your looking for. I always watch videos of whatever ones I am interested in. Keep an eye on the fin itself see how it flows if you like how floppy or stiff it is. I went for a sunfin because it was stiff enough to give you speed. I liked the foot pockets i hate the strap arounds because they give blisters easily. Be sure to do research read reviews everything to find which one is best for your needs.

I used a finis rapid monofin in mine! I don't like the shape but I didn't want to cut into the plastic so I just worked with what I had. It's not my ideal shape but I felt like a mermaid non the less! And the monofin propels nicely! But if I were to make another fabric tail, I'd try the Mahina fin because I love that shape but I'm not sure how well it swims compares to my finis monofin.

I use my fin fun monofin with my tail from there, and the one I made from spandex. Like others said depends what you are looking for...fin fun is floppy and has great realistic fin movement but propulsion is weak as hell

I use the triton mono fin. I am currently working on my tail for it. I tried the finis rapid but it broke on my 3rd swim in a pool. I think the triton is a lot better. Also the triton is the same as the hydra just bigger. The fin helps you go really fast. It has a great shape and its the perfect size for me. I wish you luck on your tail.

That's bizzare. The 3rd swim should've been covered by warranty. I would contact Finis because I've never heard of one breaking. Did you cut it before swimming?

It was covered by a warranty so I did return it. Glade I didn't cut it. But I realized how much I love mermaiding so I got the triton witch was highly recommended.

I ended up going with the Nunui monofin from suntails. Absolutely love it! So after getting it in the mail I whent and bought my fabric, sowed it up and whent swimming with had so much fun only problem I found with it was I didn't sow my tail tight enough so it was slipping down my stomach. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160529/81d30d0a25f53027414e047d2b774b3b.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160529/866618153c1b4ed22fa419b849213f56.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160529/65c0ff4b5d2c57cd7cc901c523444ba2.jpg

And I ALSO need to take up the waist, haha! It fits dry but not when you start swimming! For anyone wondering, my monofin is the So Dive Hydra. I got some video swimming today that I hope to get up in the next couple days, if anyone wants to see it in action.

Sewing in a tighter elastic into the waistband will also help stop the tail from slipping down.

I might be late to the party on this one, but I am making a fabric tail with the Mahina fin. I fitted the shape of the bottom to the tail so I can secure it. I have a thread going in the tailmaking section if that makes no sense!
