What is the best was to hide heels in a tail? I was thinking about adding foam arround my ankles to showthem less.

Maybe there is another way, I'm curious to find out your methods

that could affect how you swim if you do that. What I do is try to limit bending. In and out of water. Sit naturaly but not for example with bent knees. In the water try to do a dolphin kick instead of bending at the knee the same goes with knees as it doe with heels. Try and keep your feet pointed and exstended that limits the bodge to a minimum

One issue with foam is you need to get all the air out. Foams that will quickly leak out all the air tend to be very soft. Once full of water, they slosh around, making swimming hard. That's the thing to think about: Any filler you use to sculpt the heal area must have the density of water, and thus adds mass to the tail.

Some tail makers add secondary fins to the foot area to hide the heels.

Fins. Make big fins or have lots of heel fins.

An angled monofin will help to hide the heels somewhat, as confirmed by Merman Storm in his experimentation with fin angle.
