I'm painting silicone tail with an airbrush and using for almost all of the tail silicone mixed with mica and toluene. Everything comes great since I had to use dark blue mica, I had tested it and it didn't cure so I've decided to use colouring agent for paint. On the test everything was ok, the silicone with pigment cures so I started painting the tail with it. It was a disaster! The painting looks great but didn't cure :/ I think I used too much pigment or too much toluene :/ Any tips for this? What shoud I use to clean this up?

Did you get any answers? I have no idea, but this makes me so sad:(has anyone tried spraying another coat on, a little heavy on the part 'a' and a little less thin with no pigment- would that help cure it? Or ruin it more:( good luck saving your paint job!!!

I wiped off the paint with dry cloth, almost all is removed but some paint stays in the grooves :/ Maybe I should try to clean it with toluene? I don't know if it's safe for silicone but must be really clean to paint it again.

Can you try toluene on a scrap and see if it works and is safe? If you don't have a scrap, you can cast a small test sample.

Edit: According to this: http://mykin.com/rubber-chemical-resistance-chart-6
Toluene and Silicone do not get along. But, that site is for o-ring selection, where exposure will be for months. A quick wipe-down may be OK, so you need to test on a sample.

Thanks for help :) I tested toluene on a scrap and it looked ok, so I wiped off the paint on a tail. Next time I will use less toluene to dilute the silicone for painting. I wish now everything will be ok :)

the Thinner you are using is mostly the cause. mica powders won't inhibit cure but using excess could cause problems. thinners for craft paint is what you need to invest in. Toluene is very harsh for silicone's not to mention has an odor. thinners for craft paint is odorless, i have used a craft paint thinner to thin down silicone and it always has cured.

Thanks for suggestion, but I realized where was the cause problem. All micas works great with silicone except dark blue mica and blue mica which I used, I found that they contain ferric ferrocyanide which can react with silicone. The producent of dragon skin recommended the toluene for painting and when I use appropriate amount everything is ok. Now I'm wainting for new micas without ferric ferrocyanide.
