Buying a Mahina Merfin from Walmart

Yes. What the title says. As much as I want one, I am not down for importing to the US a Merfin. A simple google search for US places to buy a Merfin lands me at Walmart

As apparently this isn't in stores, I would order it. Paying $110 instead of $160 (plus the wait on international shipping) is a pretty good deal. So long story short, has anyone bought a Merfin from Walmart? Any problems or is everything just fine? My main concern is it seems like anything of _any_ brand, if it comes from Walmart, the whole thing suddenly becomes very dubious. (That said please don't post in here just to complain about Walmart. I just want to know if anyone has bought a Merfin from there, not to hear your unrelated qualms.)

Oh dear. The model's feet don't even begin to fit well in those pockets...

Urban Outfitters I was made aware of yesterday, actually but I have never ordered from them let alone been in a store. It is on my list tho.

Assuming it's the same mahina that the other places sell I think it'll be fine to buy from them if you need to. I got the adult large since I have size 10 feet maybe almost 10 1/2 and with socks on it fits comfortably not too loose just tight enough.

I got one with my Toothless tail. My size 12 E feet will not fit in the pockets. They are long enough, just not wide enough. Its like they sized the pockets for size 8 feet, then just made the strap longer for the size 12 version, with no concern for the fact that as feet get longer, they also get wider. Either that, or they assume everyone has size AAA feet.

I bought one from UO yesterday. My 1st order from them. A little paranoid about shipping. It won't be the end of the world if I don't get it for this reason, but still...so I chose either the 2 or 3 day shipping. Forget which. No way am I using free and having it take 5 to 9 days. Thanka for the suggestions!

Oh and with my big size 11 women's feet I was curious about the size too, since it seems I am pretty close to the measurements for large. Hopefully after I get some neoprene socks to wear with ot the fit will be perfect.

Here's the final update for anyone in the future wondering how this went. I got my Merfin, everything went fine aside from the box being halfway untaped. Not sure if to blame ups or urban outfitters. I am a satisfied seahorsey either way. *nickers and slams her fat tail on the ground in excitement*

I got a size small as I'm a size 6 and it's for US size 6-8. Both me and my younger sister fit it so it'll be good for her to practice with as well. I'm gonna see how it feels without socks when swimming, but I feel like I'm going to need padding or socks for it.

So far I'm really pleased with how it looks, the flexibility of it, the monofin itself. It seems very easy to clean, and easy to store.
I'll post more about my experience whenever I swim with it.

I didnt actually read the whole thing, just the care instructions. But now that I'm actually reading it, yeah. Definitely not because of her that it's become a trend.

But maybe she's saying that it's the first monofin designed to be pretty and look like a mermaid fin on it's own?? I have no clue, but she's not the first to create a functioning mermaid fin in general

Lol I didn't even get the little paper sleeve on mine when I got it from Amazon just the little booklet and it was shipped the same way. I wouldn't worry about the bend mine does that too and you can unbend it and you won't even see it in the water because the fin is so floppy. :3!

Same! I have been thinking about making something similar sequin tail and having the body of the tail end in a point. Then painting the merfin to match and attching it to the tailbody somehow instead of having an enclosed fluke. I am not really sure how to connect the two parts together though.

Same here. I want the body to detach from the fin for easy practice and storage and removal, and I really want to hide the back side where the foot pockets stick out a little bit. There's another thread talking about painting the Merfin and us trying to figure out how to custom the fin even more.

I got mine in the mail last week. My daughter-in-law is a costumer, so I've asked her to help make me a few fabric tail covers for the Mahina. I tested out the Medium size ( my feet wear size 8.5/9 US) and they fit snug. I have some neoprene socks coming so I avoid the rubber top rubbing my feet raw. I could see that happening after awhile in a pool. Anyway, DIL has a pool, so, I'm hoping she'll let me come try out my fin once Comic-con is over- we are all too busy being there over these 4 days... I got the green, but I want to paint it, a purple/black tone...I found a great fabric from Nicole Miller at Jo-Ann's to use for one tail cover.38288
I've never attached a pic, so here goes nothing...

I received the Medium Mahina from Amazon in green for 89$. My shoe size is 8-8.5 women's. The tips were warped when it came in the box. Since the patio was SO hot during the day, i laid it flat and put a book on each of the tips. I left it on the hot concrete for an hour, and when I went to retrieve it, the tips were perfectly flat. So, I used the heat warping it, to unwarp the edges. Now I keep it laying flat. The first time I tried it on in the pool, it was easier to put it on wet. I don't have my neoprene socks yet...but, took it to the pool anyway. I have one downside to the Mahina. The bottom foot pocket ends in the middle of my foot. When I did the Project Mermaid photo shoot, they used Mertailor tails with his homemade fluke in it. It also ends in the middle of the bottom of my foot. After an hour of flipping around for the photo shoot, I was getting cramps in the bottom of my feet- plantar fasciitis was setting in. I knew this fluke had/has the same potential. I wish they had made the foot cup come further back to at least the heel. I understand leaving some openings in the foot pockets for water drainage- but, pushing the fluke with the middle of my foot gets tiring and will take awhile for me to get used to. I was able to wear it in the pool for about half an hour at a time, I had to watch my granddaughter and didn't want to be stuck in it if she needed me (there were a few other family members around, but I was babysitting). I hope to go back to the pool with out a 5 year old charge and get to swim freely to see what I can do. The pool only goes to 5' so, flipping is also a bit tricky, due to the size of the fluke! I love feminine shape and it does propel me along quite nicely. I need to find a deeper pool where I can use it to tread water. I need to get to the beach with it and really swim far! Now, I am getting some costumers to help me make some fabric covers for it. Then, I'll feel even more mermaid-y.
