I'm too impatient to wait, so I'm making a PARTIAL SILICONE TAIL!

Hi everymer! So I have been extremely envious of all your beautiful silicone tails, so i decided to make my very own! I was so lucky that a local store carried Neoprene ($20/yd, but no shipping and NO WAITING!) and that I know all the people at my local Home Depot so I was able to get my silicone for a bulk discount! I also was given some paint samples that were going to be trashed from my friends in the paint department, so all-in-all I have only spent about $150 on my tail! I know i'll need probably $50 worth of silicone on top of what I already have in order to finish my tail/: BUT HOLY MUSHROOMS! I LOVE HOW IT ALL LOOKS SO FAR!!

Heyo! I can totally get why you're so excited, it's always great to create something! :) I like the shape of the fluke! What monofin are you using?

Before you crack on though, I would suggest you wait and see if the silicone cures properly, and also see if the paint is not cracking when stretched out as the body of your tail will need to be stretched out when wearing and the paint will have to keep up with it.. If you haven't made any samples, just double check everything works fine before you cover the whole tail :)

I have used the Home Depot paint on other stretchy surfaces and with a clear sealer coat it should last! I'm painting the silicone while it's wet so most of the paint is absorbed in to the gel itself! I got too excited and launched in without testing it but I have confidence that with my prior projects, it'll work out!

The paint was a mixed bag/: half stayed without issue, half peeled right off on the deck... The tail, even after all the measurements, was too long in the ankles, and impossible to swim in:cry: so I'm starting a new one today! Once in home from vacation, it's straight to the fabric store for me!!
