http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160627/99b4b76deb6f5a190aa796d8cc8dd86d.jpg I was just doodling some tail designs and I came up with something I really liked. I think it would be feasible to make it from neoprene. I saw another Mer made a sequin tail by glueing the sequins on, this restricts the stretch quite a bit so would it be possible to do with something like this? What are your opinions. What would you make this out of? I want something fairly realistic.

Looks like a very cool concept! Whether you want to glue or sew sequins is a personal choice, but there are pros and cons to each.

Pros to gluing:
Much faster process
Easier to fix is you mess up

Cons to gluing:
Sequins fall off faster
Limits stretch

Pros to sewing:
Sequins stay on longer
Stretches better if you use a zig zag stitch

Cons to sewing:
Longer process
Harder to fix if you mess up
If you sew them all at once, if a thread breaks you lose all your scales

I would go for sewing if I were to do it myself. Whichever you choose, good luck! I hope to see this in the future :)

Pearliemae made a one piece tail out of silicone that looks phenomenal. The back is completely open and the top attaches as a halter neck, but it's similar in concept. I personally think silicone would be one of the best ways to go because of its stretch and flexibility. I don't have experience with neoprene and sequins, so I can't advise on that part.

Im making a full body tail and am using clasps in order to get in and out of the thing. However instead of sequins im using pulltabs off of soda cans! I went with sewing because thats the way i know. And let me tell you, using a stretchyish fabric with stretchy beading line (or fishing line, actually) works beautifully.

I think something like this would work. Look at what the two kids are wearing, its got velcro and instead of legs, you make that part into a tail.

I would go for silicone like pearliemea. Full body mermaids are super cool! Can't wait to see the finished project!
