Foot pockets or monofins?

I couldn't find anything on this so here it goes.
Are foot pockets harder to swim in? They seem to look more realistic with the way the fluke flows.
Are monofins easier to swim in?
Are they always hard looking or can you get the same delicate flowing look, like you see in Moo mermaid tails?
How do foot pockets work?
Are monofins harder to get on? Do they slip off less often than foot pockets?
Sorry for all the questions.

Monofins have been designed specifically for fin swimming. Most of them have a strong blade designed to help push the user through the water. The issue that arises with foot pockets is usually lack of propulsion since it is just floppy silicone without a monofin and general discomfort as the foot pockets must then take all the weight of the kick, generally straining muscles more than a monofin does. They are also uncomfortable from what I've read, usually from poor design.

You can get a more flowy look with either a smaller monofin (like the Finis Foil) or with a home-made one that is a strong, yet flexible material. Here is an example of each:

Foot pockets work, essentially, are just feet sized holes at the end of the tail that connect to the monofin. I don't know if they have straps or not since not many people I know use them anymore...

I think the only thing that would make one harder to get on than the other is heel-straps, which come standard in monofins but can be removed (I've also heard of people swimming in a tail without the straps on just fine). The tail itself usually does a good job at keeping the monofin on but if the foot sizing is incorrect it can always lead to discomfort or a foot slipping out.

Thank you. �� Is there a way to minimize the look of that square area where the feet go in at the top of the fluke? It seems very emphasized in swimming videos and some pictures. The tails are still very beautiful, I am just asking for reference to see if it is possible to get around that. Thank you.

I have owned a tail with foot pockets and that was one of the main reasons I changed it. It was Mertailor's partial silicone one and it has heavy, solid silicone fluke with foot pockets and one strap going behind both heels. It was kinda functional but very frustrating to swim in. It was "slipping" when you tried to turn with it cause it was so heavy and you didn't have strong control of it, and it was very difficult to swim with it smoothly. I have now Mertailor's basic silicone with custom fluke, mono in it is ok, far better than one with foot pockets, even though I have had other problems with it... But yeah, for your original question my personal opinion would be that build-in-monos are better, but people do prefer different things, f.ex. the better look of the fluke with foot pockets (which I do kinda agree with you, have you seen Mike Van Daal's Fliptails?) :) Some tailmakers however do absolutely phenomenal job with hiding the monofins like f.ex. Merbella and Finfolk (Mer-Crazy already brought Merbella to the conversation in upper message and Finfolk tails you can also find from Youtube/Facebook/Instagram)
