I have two fabric tails that I just receive and I have not use them yet in a pool or any water. Me sad boo hoo bummer. I was wondering when I do use my fabric tail at a pool were do I put it on at. I'm thinking at the deep end edge with a towel on the floor so I wont scrape up the tail and have myself close to the edge sit down on the towel put on the tail then hop in the water making sure I don't touch the bottom of the pool and scrape up the monofin part. Any info from my fellow merfolk thanks.

I do exactly that at my college pool :3. I do start in the shallow end though and just lower myself slowly in the water while raising my legs so i don't hit my monofin. I have also put it on in the water at the steps before, but it was much more tricky!

Right near the pool edge is best as you want to avoid the rough surface of the concrete that surrounds most pools. Once my tail is on I just lower myself into the water from the side of the pool and go from there. If you are completely new to mer swimming you may want to practice in the shallow end first.
As for touching the bottom with my fin, yes its not ideal, but I don't worry too much about it. As long as you don't try to move around/hop while standing in your monofin the wear is fairly minimal. The most wear I have gotten on my tail has been from my early days when I was first learning to use my tail and I didn't know how to turn around in the pool without scraping my fin along the bottom. The secret I have discovered to this is to flip yourself over so you're facing upright just before you surface.

I just float at the surface, arranging my tail. When I put it on, I put my feet in then slide slowly into the pool, pulling the rest of it up.
