This is going to be a slow moving post since I just spent 3 months on a neoprene sequin tail, however I'm now ready to start a silicone one! I'm planning to use the scale sheet method with dragon skin, then i'll be airbrushing afterwards. I've done lots of researching but still haven't seen a post as to how much Pearl EX pigment I'll need and how many coats I'll need to get vibrate colors. Please feel to give advice (Pearly Mae) and anyone that has successfully made a tail!
I'm planning to get the Finis Wave or Rapid (I made my last monofin with Lexan and flippers) I'm thinking the Rapid size 7 1/2-8 feet. I won't really be ocean swimming except for photos on vacations. Suggestions please!

It's not gonna be disastrous!! (And don't get discouraged by mini-disasters!) it will be fabulous!! I think RIGHT NOW you should order one trial kit of silicone, I think it's like 30 bucks, and just start playing with it! it's so fun and sparkly it will keep you motivated. You could even practice in an easy way, without all of the fuss, like find a fun chocolate mold or something.
But im a silicone addict...

For my old silicone tail (the one in my profile pic) I used about half a 20g container of pearl ex in 3 different colours (so a total of 1.5 jars). Given you need quite a lot to build up a white belly like I have, that's probably an overly generous estimate! You don't need much pigment to get vibrant colours :)

Yeah... I think I have about 15-20 bags, a lot of them 100g each....if I'd had any idea, I would have never ordered that much.
Though I have been trying them for other projects and left some open- my husband was like: that's going to get everywhere:/ and I was like- really though, why wouldn't you want it to? It looks like FAIRY DUST.
I decided I'm adding a little to my sunscreen

Also, I love betas so I can't wait to see this come to life, whichever color theme you choose! :) I really like all of them, but the second stands out to me. ;)
