In most media merfolks tails are either the same fluke with different colors (ex. the little mermaid and Pirates of the Caribbean ) or the same fluke and same color (ex. h2o just add water, Mermaid, and also mako mermaids if you consider it the same for each gender)

Personally I like the uniform look I could be bias since I grew up with the h2o tails but I would love to know what you guys think!

Which do you prefer different tails for everyone or uniformity?

On a side note I'm in the process of writing a story about mermaids and you would not believe how long I've gone back and forth on tail colors and flukes [emoji28]

Personally, because I grew up on H2O as well and not the Little Mermaid or anything else, I like the uniformity too. I also sort of take it on a level like, if mermaids were actually real, wouldn't everyone having the same tail make things more realistic? But in our mermaid community it's really neat to see everyone's different tail designs; although since I still can't make up my mind on what kind of design I'd like for myself, it'd just be easier to say, "Okay! Gold it is for me!" (h2o reference) lol

I think having a uniform fluke shape makes sense, b/c I think of it as they're all the same species/subspecies/whatever. Although if you have mers visiting from "distant seas" or something, I could definitely see them having a different fluke that evolved from the different conditions - like different currents and temps and stuff.

But I do like the different tail colors (tho I grew up on The Little Mermaid, so that might be influencing me like H2O did you) because I feel like that might be more like a human's skin color or body type being different, which is different even within the same cultures for humans, so why not mermaids?
