My own older sister and best friends like brothers to me put me down and even said I looked F***ing gay for wearing my merman tail. I'm a sad merman :( for a bit. I just got my merman tail a few weeks ago I am not going to let them bring me down I love being a merman that will never change. I am happy that my other older sister and some other of my best friends said I looked cool. I just want to know if other fellow merfolk have been put down for wearing there tails and how do they cope with the put down.

I know your feeling. My tail is kept a secret from others, and i just use it at the beach while nobody's looking. At one point, my secret was almost revealed after a lifeguard saw me swimming under the docks. I took the tailskin off and came out only with the monofin claiming "It's my training for my swim club" (which is a EXCELLENT RESPONSE), they don't have the proof to counter that (Thank god :D ) but 1/4 times they see me, they call me "Little mermaid", which is kinda embarrasing... I had the tail hidden for 2 years now and still swim in it. I don't have a girlfriend (YET) and i'm not gay, so i suggest to do what you wanna do, cause we only live once, and if we don't achieve our dreams in our life, we will die regretting not doing what we wanted to do.

I'm not a merman, but I have experienced some put-downs for my tail.

My stepfather, his mother, MY mother, and one of my sisters totally hate it. They said it's a waste of money and that I'm being childish (19 in two weeks) and that I need to grow up. They get pretty angry when I talk about it, and that makes me pretty sad. I've struggled with depression for a while, and their comments don't help.

However, it's the one family I have when mine is going crazy. I've had you guys for four years, and I haven't felt like a part of my home all my life. I fight with at least one person in my family daily, and I haven't fought with anyone here ever. It's a home away from home. I know in my heart that this is where I belong, and I'm not going to let anyone take that from me.

We need more mermen out there! Stay strong, you two. Always remember: be happy, swim free!

I've been lucky enough to have friends who actually don't care one way or the other if I wear a tail or not. It's just another thing I'm into. They never even bring it up and I sometimes think they've totally forgotten that I've told them But they're the only ones who know and I've kept it a secret from my family for the past few years. I'm sorry to hear that you experienced this. As a guy, I can definitely put myself in your shoes and imagine what you must have felt. But it's good to hear that you have some support around you.

I think it is so sad when parents don't support their kids aspiration and dreams. Like I am sure they had them as kids. Wearing a mermaid tail has nothing to do with "being gay' and hate when people use it to describe something.

Stay strong and keep on swimming. Don't listen to all the negativity. there is always gonna be someone to put you down or try to rain on your parade, don't let them. I honestly believe that people who bring others down are just secretly jealous of their happiness.

Hydro, please don't let people with small minds and big opinions rob you of the fun you have being a merman. I have found that most people who try to pull this crap are uncreative and unoriginal and resent the fact that you're not afraid to try something they wish they had the balls to do.
When I go to the beach people usually want to get a pic with me. I have not had any problems but then if I started getting any grief I have no problem telling someone to kindly fuck off. ;) Keep in mind it's YOUR life! Their opinions are only worth the weight that you decide to give them. I think you look GREAT! Have fun. Be strong. You're a Merman!
