Hey! I've been inactive for a few months on here and haven't been in my monofin in awhile, but I recently began swimming in it again! I was glad to back in the water but it brought up an old problem I hadn't thought about in awhile.

Whenever I swim in my monofin for upwards of about 15 minutes I feel like the muscles on the top of my feet are cramping. Not sure if that's exactly what it really is or what's causing it. I guess my question is if anyone else has had this problem and if anyone has an idea on how to relieve it? Thanks for any and all replies!

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, wasn't sure where to put it.

Couple things could be happening...

If you don't already, always make sure to stretch out your feet before going with a swim with a monofin, especially if you are new to it. This will help relieve any cramping.

If that isn't the case, you could possibly be getting blisters (I have dark scars on the tops of my feet due to mega blisters in my Competitor fin). To fix this, wear a pair of neoprene booties like divers do. Once the skin on your feet adjusts to being constantly moved around like that, you might not need to wear them.

Lastly, if you are new to monofin swimming (not sure how seasoned you are, theres only a few posts from you on the forum) your feet could just be getting used to the new type of movement and muscles are growing. Just like in weightlifting, your growing muscles will be sore during and after a workout. With time, this should go away.

If you can pinpoint which issue you are having, it will be easier to fix whatever is wrong. If you think it is something serious after some time, consult a doctor or physical therapist :) Good luck!
