So, a few days ago... almost a week ago at this point, we had a mermaid parade in Portland, Oregon... semi-akin to the one in Coney Island. It was "small," as it was just the first year, but there was a bigger turn out than I expected! While I am glad I went and did it, I am a little unsure of why the opening ceremony had to take so long and I was not too keen on the "it's about me" spin that it felt like was put atop it, but after that the rest was fine.

I am also sad that our river is too polluted to swim in safely. I hope those mers who ventured in did not get Hep C from doing so! (Seriously, it's bad. We found a bloody glove at the river-side.)

While I did not get a lot of pictures, since I was being towed around, I managed to snag some pics of me from others. Enjoy, and if you were there add some pics yourself! :)

Aww, you are absolutely stunning! I love your smile! What a wonderful change from all those years ago!

Is that another tail you've made? I love it! You're so great at painting them!

You look great! Did you have fun?

What did you mean "it's about me" spin?

I did enjoy it, though it was hot at the opening ceremony was -way- too long, imo. (In an event where there are little kids, you don't want them waiting super long.) The spin came from the lead mermaid (the organizer) turning the parade into a celebration of mermaids -and- her dealing with past trauma that made it harder for her to relate to people, until she discovered how to be a mermaid. It just felt very like "Welcome to MY parade" rather than "Welcome to our celebration of all things mermaid and magical!"
