I did a search and didn't find any topics on this so here we go!

One thing I have noticed when swimming is that I am super buoyant. Back when I was getting my SCUBA certification about a decade ago, I had the same problem. I was curious what sorts of ways super buoyant mers have found to counter that. How do you hide a weight belt? What about wearing a weight around your ankles? Or a weighted necklace? How do you do so safely?

I am sure I have seen something about weight belts and buyoancy before on here, especially with making weight belts.
I have the same problem. My delfina tail has a *very* buyoant monofin, and I'm thinking about putting a small weight there as an 'ankle wristband' (?). However, my body is buyoant, too, so I would work with a weight belt. I find a necklace too risky in my opinion (I think about choking danger) and I also refrain from weights in my tail. There are some mers (I completely forgot the name, sry), who disguise weight belts with shells and plastic plants (I think you can look it up on etsy). For the safety: You have to know how heavy it should be for your body. If it is too heavy, it is too dangerous (especially if you combine ankle and belt and the balance of each). What works is one of those fast-release closures, that you could use that some diving belts have (maybe again hide with shells, but so that the closure is still usable and safe), but try them in shallow water first and practise removing the belts.

I hope this helped. If I made a mistake I am very sorry.
Good luck!

I am the floatiest mermaid I need 10lbs to even be neutral. I put flat weights in my tail. I dont find that weight belts work for me while in a tail, and they damaged my silicone waist line. I needed the weight lower. when i free dive I wear ankle and wrist weights and when I train breath hold in the pool I need 15lbs

I'm currently considering it cause every time I'm trying to sit on the bottom of the pool i just kinda float up to the surface really fast and gosh it annoys me, because I can never stay down long enough to get at least 5 bubble rings going. I don't know how to calculate the weight though. Im considering covering it up with another net that has greenery attached, so its not easily seen. I even considered covering the weights with some shells but I don't think that is easily done if I have to take weights off of the belt. I was also considering wearing an ankle weight because I'm thinking that my tail could add to the buoyancy in the water. Its a silicone tail. I've had a look at some belts and have decided to get a rubber belt with a stainless steal buckle so the weights don't slide around as much.... but its just calculating how much weight I need.

You can find how much weight you need by trial and error. Get some steel or lead items, and see how much you need to become neutrally buoyant.
I need 5 pounds. I have a couple of stainless steel upper arm rings (home made) and some wide cuff bracelets that all together come close enough.

I just stumbled across this site with custom weights shaped like sea creatures and shells! I don't know how often they open up their commissions but they look so good!
