I posted the status below on my facebook, but also wanted to ask the mers here, since I've also been learning so much from all of you about various pains/illnesses/disabilities that you live with, and also about being more attentive to how the things we do might affect others.

In the last couple years, I've gained many facebook friends who live with chronic pain/illness. I've learned a lot. I've read a story about spoons, and I've started to notice things that I take for granted, like the number of times I have to flex different muscles while shaving my legs to keep the skin pulled taut. It's been very enlightening. I've had an idea, and I wanted input/feedback from these friends. (Feel free to message me privately if you don't want to discuss here. That's also why I won't be tagging anyone directly.)
I thought of decorating spoons in various colors/designs, selling them as Christmas ornaments, and donating all profits to a charity. Would this be a neat thing, or would it seem pretentious (or whatever) coming from someone who doesn't live with chronic pain/illness? I want this to be something positive, a way to raise awareness and funds, but I understand if it wouldn't come off that way. On the flip side, if you think it's a good idea, are there any charities you'd recommend?
Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated! <3

I personally love this idea and would love to help in any way I can! I struggle with chronic illness (going on 5 years now!) and I honestly love the awareness plus the fund raising that this project proposes. And, for what it's worth, I don't think that's pretentious at all. The #1 thing I want my friends to be is understanding of the 'spoons' situation if I have to put plans on hold or cancel altogether. From my point of view, I think it's very kind and refreshing to have someone who doesn't have chronic illness to advocate for understanding of people who live with chronic illness. I would love to help in any way I can :)

As a spoonie myself, I love this idea! And I'm so glad people like you are opening up and learning about the world of chronic illness and disabled folks. As for charities, that's a hard one.. here's a list that might help you get started! (List of charities giving grants to people with long-term disabililties and chronic health conditions (http://www.communitycare.co.uk/2009/07/10/list-of-charities-giving-grants-to-people-with-long-term-disabililties-and-chronic-health-conditions/))
