Hi everyone! I just started working on making my first silicone tail. I'm working on my scale sheet with foam circles. My circles are glued to a thin sheet of metal. My question is, what's the best way to seal the scales in before pouring my mold? There are some little gaps between the circles and I don't want them to pull up and get stuck in the cast. I tested some clear spray but it doesn't seal up the holes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Mers!

I don't think most people "seal" the scales. Most just use a release agent on top of their foam scales and then pour the resin on to form the mould.

I'm not sure, but I think some people use PVA (white glue, like Elmer's) to seal foam circles. BUT I COULD BE WRONG.

Use the search to find other scalesheet makers and see what they do.

If there are gaps between the scales, you'll want to try and fill those in with clay or something. Otherwise your mold material could flow underneath the scales and then you'll never get them out. It can be a little tedious to stuff tiny bits of clay into the gap between scales, but it's less time than making a whole new scale sheet.

For sealing the foam itself, I had good luck with Shellac. Other's use watered-down elmer's glue (a lot of it), and a release agent.
