View Full Version : Where is this Monofin from????

Hey guys, I am in need of some mermaid expertise. So I was researching for a video I will be making in the future about 10 more places to buy mermaid tails (a sequel to this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NL-mv1LbMxQ)one)
I have made a list of some of the lesser known/lesser quality tailmakers and then decided to delve into the world of Amazon and Ebay. I came across a okay looking tail and I noticed the monofin...
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/NpGwTqhY9RLNZCGPPMiCnWJGbN8LZ3JYl10QbcRZW_lZg3Ur3I pl704ttvikcQ5bcFchT4BKhtqfb7jX2CZftS9ucrqO5DrxpQb9 Cin78gJT9r4ECRYBM8SeqZYYA_NeUqlw5DUA

Now where have I seen that before???
Oh look, it's the same one from FantasyFin!
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/qu0ReTpIckk1U9hkraYUz1RGCMsf3mHxf6mYw9LY2IEailX72s MgRPMppkj7QiiEBSTw7XyhkW7QIZlw66quXSnA23iyM5zo0BGq 2_HiePtQCCZ6dcLe8uyB62YgqEfrM11QnD1U
I initially thought that it was a monofin made by the company as they appear to have a logo upon it and upon watching an unboxing video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-1ZjxRLTMw), my hinch that it was a photoshopped image proved to be incorrect. But MANY other photos of this monofin appear to have the no fantasy fin logo on the tail, so it must be stamped on or something.

So this is a monofin made by a 3rd party. It's definitely not Finis and I found it used in a few other tails on amazon and ebay
Like this (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01DZPE5R0/ref=twister_B01HRQFZ5O)one

After some digging for just the monofin, I found a listing on amazon that seemed pretty legit, lots of photos and the 2 monofin sizes that Fantasy Fin uses together. https://www.amazon.com/Betterhill-Mermaid-Swimming-Flippers-Swimmable/dp/B01CSQZQOS?tag=jtanuggetz-20
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/r6yxqykAOpboxQT3z1WIedTDNRYxcu4L9CS-J3dsTezK0m74_r1aWJ-eu6tpRX0_pSzYHlETx1r1je-N_6loDAlRFus9kPAGGyRq_e9bVOltDyCiUBZz9CA-d6CPaFUGoYgK-FjT
But when I searched up Betterhill there is no company, just the Amazon retailer. The description even seemed to copy word for word the Finis description of their mermaid monofin and said that it was made of silicone. So clearly they are not the creators of this monofin.
SO WHO IS? I went back to some listings of the fin on ebay, amazon and aliexpress. Of course, being said (slightly sketchy) sites, I could not pin down a solid name of a manufacturer. It seems like an awesome monofin though.

Facts I do know: They make kids and youth monofins
Kids: I’ve also seen it in a dark green-blue
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/BiB2HBmBDUBID-eDe9XFef8BJe3SmMJgyNqaePrzHUTO5661xLduf65ruCwOpnc4 N5ypwmU7vi6YkAMtb-oJQf0PQB9QgoDGulg808Dlkgz5ZgC93wPx4nApeNeGO0bk3xdK-AkS
Youth:also comes in light blue

There appears to be no logo on it whatsoever after I looked at all the pictures in this (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Mermaid-Monofin-Fin-Flippers-Swimming-Toy-Tails-Adjustable-for-Boys-Girls-Kids/32725046733.html?spm=2114.40010208.4.98.7MFZtO)ali express listing.
I believe that it is made in China, due to the amount of Chinese wholesalers putting the fin in their tails.

All I want to know is who makes this monofin so I can have a definitive name for when I talk about what type of monofin the different tails use. If anyone has any ideas I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Sincerely, A very confused and obsessed researcher.

The yellow one looks like a pre-cut Wave or Rapid, but from Finis

Hey, we used those blue and pink kids' monofins at the mermaiding company I worked for. From what I can tell they're produced by a no-name Chinese manufacturer, and are almost certainly intended as a cheap knockoff of the similar FINIS kids fins. Ebay and Alibaba are full of them.

I do not recommend them.

There are a number of issues but the biggest one is the straps are super crappy. The rubber is very slippery and doesn't grip to anything properly, so it constantly slips out of the buckle and you have to knot it super tight to get the fin to stay on. And that often causes the straps to break. Also, if you can find it, look for a fin with a strap that hooks in between the ankles like the adult one pictured. Goes a long way towards keeping it on your feet.

I also saw after reading some (a ton) reviews that the straps are not the best. It seems like this company is very good at producing fakes of Finis monofins. I shall have to conclude that it is called Yosoo that makes the fins for a very cheap cost.

Fantasy Fin got back to me... their design is all their own but copied by Chinese companies and resold.

Yup, I bought the blue version of that last picture (of the yellow one) and there are no logos or names anywhere on it. I can also confirm that the straps (to sound like Archer) "slip off for like no reason." The adjustment notches are tiny, so they just don't stay in place at all. If you're okay with replacing the strap, it's otherwise a decent monofin, if small. (That's actually the main reason I plan to resell mine. It's too small for my big merbooty!)

Hi Faith,

I saw this one on aliexpress recently. Not sure what kind of plastic they used but it looks kinda cute!
