2016 MerNetwork Secret Santa Official Thread

[MerNetwork Secret Santa]

General overview of this year's rules (you agree by signing up):

- We recommend that you spend no more than $15 on your gift (this includes handmade crafts, but exceptions may be made if an item is worth more than $15 but is second hand - as in the giver had it).
- If you do spend over $15, don't be upset if you get a gift that cost less.
- Your gift has to be mailed by November 15th - you must be able to commit to this.
- You must state if you are comfortable with being partnered with someone with an international address. (PLEASE TAKE SHIPPING TIMES INTO ACCOUNT!)
- You must be an active user on the forums with at least 30 substantial posts before Sept 1, 2016.
- Accounts made after September 1, 2016 will not be eligible to participate.
- No food, anything live, dangerous/illegal, or inappropriate (NSFW).
- Don't send fragile things unless you're absolutely sure they are protected.
- Your sign-up address does not have to be your own if you have privacy concerns (use a friend’s name and address, etc) – as long as you can still receive your gift.
- Do not share anyone’s information or real names anywhere.
- Gifts are mer-related!
- If you fail at sending a gift even after you've given your word of commitment, or break the privacy policy, your account will be publicly acknowledged as being owned by a jerk and you will be banned from future exchanges.
- Registration will end on Oct 31, 2016.

Discretion and Liability Agreement
By agreeing to sign up for this event you are agreeing to the following terms:

• All private information of the gift-tee (the person receiving the gift) that will be disclosed (including names, addresses, and photos) will remain private (unshared, un-spammed, and only used for this transaction) unless sole permission from the gift-tee says otherwise. Failure to comply to this rule means you are banned from participating in any other exchanges.

• If you sign up and don’t send a gift, you will be forever known as a person who is unreliable and can’t follow through. Also, people on the forums will generally think of you as a jerk. This is a commitment. If you do not honor this you will be banned from future participation.

• You cannot hold the organizer responsible for the gift you receive or for any liabilities. This is a community event and I have no personal vested interest or ulterior motive in organizing this activity.

Matches are taking a little longer than usual this year - some addresses were not entered correctly and I'm combing through to correct the format/googling the correct postcodes. Halfway there!

I like to think of this event as a fun way to connect with more people in the community and so including the note is a nice way to say Hi and let the mer get a feel for whoever sent them the gift.

Nerenia - what country was it going from and to? If it was international, the tracking might say delivered when it's been passed to the destination country's postal system.

I had ordered something on Amazon once and it was sent from overseas. I panicked when the tracking said 'delivered' and I didn't have it. Turned out they only tracked it until it was passed to the local postal service and it arrived a few days later.

Mine was delivered on the 17th of Nov and haven't heard anything or seen any postings on any social media from my mer since the beginning of November. Im very worried she didn't like my gifts or it was stolen or something.

It does seem odd that a couple of mers haven't said anything despite supposedly receiving their gifts.

I know life can happen and things can get in the way, so I'm not about to make any snap judgements here, but it does make me wonder whether or not they've actually posted their gifts out.

I really hope everyone who's still waiting gets their gift in the end!

I haven't received mine yet .....but am late with sending mine too, my original plan had to be canned due to my the etsy shop I was buying from having an impromptu Period of closure, went with a plan B... Love what I have had made especially for my secret Santa, sorry for the delay, promise it will be worth it! Xxx

I'm in the uk so not expecting mine to arrive quickly, as I know most mers are overseas, and international delivery is never that quick!

I was actually amazed how quickly my gift got to Leomar in Australia - although I did nearly have heart failure when it suddenly seemed to stop moving on the tracking page. I was scared they'd lost it!

Speaking of which... Leomar, I've loved seeing the photos of you at the con with them on. I'm also glad I went for the blue colour scheme! I do like that fabric tail. [emoji4]

I realise this is a bit pessimistic, but I just really hope that nobody has decided to drop out after signing up. I've taken part in an online secret Santa before where that happened, and the person organising it had made little back-up gifts as she was expecting it. (It was completely online - like doing a poem, letter, digital painting, etc.) Ok, so it wasn't quite the same as spending money and posting something physical, but it was still a shame for those who had sent gifts but didn't receive anything.

I've loved seeing what everyone else has got so far. Everyone seems to have a great imagination, and picked/made fantastic gifts.

I didn't join in last year but did the year before and everyone received theirs, there was even one missing and if I remember correctly they received a gift in lieu from another mer and the original came eventually anyway : ) I'm sure everyone will come through x

I haven't had the Chance to post about what I got, I was hoping to be able to glue the sand dollar back together, but no such luck. :( I got a large sand dollar, some really pretty shells and it was all wrapped up in netting that I can make something out of for sure.

But the sand dollar shattered during shipping, it still has some pretty large pieces, but also some really little ones, which is kind of a bummer.

And I only have 1 official RECEIVED confirmation.

Can people please email me regarding SENT and RECEIVED gifts? It is a lot easier/automatic for me to sort through emails than by going through all the posts on the thread.

Finally gotten everything sorted out! I'm so sorry to my lovely Mermaid who's been waiting patiently! I have messaged you on facebook and my gifts on its way!
