Too thick scales?

What does everyone use to make sure their clay scales don't turn out to thick? I plan on making 100 plus clay scales for a mold but after 20 noticed a major difference in thickness?

I'd recommend buying one of these clay machines you can roll out flat clay mats the cut out the shape.39410

I agree with Merman Marinus, I use a clay roller and roll out sheets of clay and then take my circle clay cutter and cut out all my clay circles. I bought 3 from Michael's craft store because they all broke after a month or less with heavy use they were the all the Amaco brand which cost me around $17 because of coupons
