New thread for a new tail!

This time, I'm making a tail with a much smaller fluke and no fins apart from little heel fins. I'm aiming for a more light weight tail that's easier to transport around. My peacock butterfly tail is fine when I've got the car, but I don't fancy trying to navigate trains and the underground with it!

I did have the design all planned out, but I've ordered some new pigments and should be getting them tomorrow, so the design is subject to change.

I've essentially copied the comma butterfly's hind wings for the fluke, so I'm calling this the Comma Fluke.

Last time I did individual scales, then decided it wasn't sturdy enough to withstand the beating I would inevitably give it... so I made and used a scale sheet in the end!

And this time, I'll be using the same scale sheet. Soooooo much easier than individual scales, and better suited to a beginner who will batter the tail senseless despite all best intentions. [emoji23]

I'm going to go play with my new pigments I picked up today, before deciding exactly what colour scheme I'm going with.

The tail is assembled apart from the heel fins, and I still have some painting work left to do, but it's almost there. Just waiting on some new silicone arriving!

For now, here's an in-progress shot of the fluke:

Everything bar the black areas has been coloured solely with glitter.

And yes, it's another butterfly design. The Alpine Black Swallowtail.

The next one will be a small tortoiseshell butterfly, and then I promise I'll do something different!

I'm almost done now. I decided I couldn't quite stop at heel fins, so I now have a little set of hip fins to paint and attach.
