want to add I am also waiting to hear about my leggings. I ordered them on Black Friday, they were too small (bc/ of no size chart). I sent them back. they finally confirmed they got them, and said they would issue a refund. I had told them several times that I wanted to exchange them. Still havn't heard about that either. (non related) Plus, my silk veils I ordered in Nov. from Poland are lost somewhere, and have not tracking..I am just feeling so frustrated b/c I have all these outstanding awesome things I am waiting for and don't know whats going on with any of them. Its esp. frustrating after knowing how much cash I have shelled out and noone messages me back.....
I haven't gotten my leggings yet either and I too got them on Black Friday. But they're so busy! I don't blame them.

Oh I wouldn't worry about that at all! You were very nice in your video and what you stated is a legitimate concern. I'm actually scared for the spaces between the scales as well when I get mine. [emoji51] And I laughed when you compared the feel of the scales to the TV remote. I actually grabbed mine and chuckled. [emoji23]
Either way, the video was great. Reviews like that help make the product even better in the future.[emoji5]

Well my silicone tail is 35lbs and this Mythic one I've read was somewhere around 20 lbs?
So the Mythic is loads lighter, in general. However there is more weight along the main body (due to the scales) than in the fluke.
In comparison my silicone tail is fairly light around the main body but incredibly heavy in the fluke.

Alea, I have always considered getting a Mythic tail ever since they announced them! I'm planning on waiting until at least the second batch in February releases as they'll have some time to iron out a few of the kinks and maybe a purple option will be available. Just finished watching the video. Those scales sound dragon-ish or snake-ish, very interesting. I don't understand how anyone could have thought your outfit was risque, you're wearing a full shirt. Also you're adorable.
I hope you get that key because it's gorgeous. Love the colors of the teal. I doubt the spaces could be fixed; the scales are a fixed point on a stretching material. Even with adding more scales to cover, once its rebound to its unused shape, the scales won't fit neatly with each other.
Also another point, do the scales scratch each other? They have to be smooth to the touch, but I wonder what will happen with the constant friction/rubbing between the scales.
Can't wait for your swim video ^^

Do you think the weight of the scales would compensate for the buoyancy of the neoprene and make the tail more neutrally buoyant? Just curious.

The suspense is killing me though. I even took off work tomorrow to wait around for it. unfortunately for the past month or so my city has had a huge package robbing issue. And there's no way I'm risking getting this stolen!

So I received my mythic tail. It's absolutely stunning and would have fit well, but a tooth on the zipper was missing, making it IMPOSSIBLE to zip up. I'm really disappointed.... and just sad.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170109/fc21e2d5dd5c5506d1f0f1a9385b7a1d.jpg

Yes, I've emailed them! Seems like it'll probably take a while from them to email me back though since not many people have been getting any replies from them lately.
I also contacted a tailor who said they may be able to replace the broken tooth, or come up with something else. I'm thinking that if FinFolk agrees to take the tail and fix it it'll take a few months though ://
I'm just disappointed since I have my first meetup on Sunday, and was really hoping to have something other than a fabric tail with me!
Mermaid Alea
01-09-2017, 07:00 PM
Yeah I figure it might take Finfolk a while to reply. If you do end up taking it to a tailor make sure they replace it with a tooth that is waterproof. If they have to come up with another idea they could try snaps. I have some quarter sized coated metal snaps that I use to secure the bottom of my fabric fluke and it works perfectly.
How were you able to get the zipper down? Or did it come off of the track when you hit that missing link?

The tailor did also mention securing it with snaps. I don't really want to have to resort to that though since I paid over 700 dollars for this, and it shouldn't have any problems. I do also understand that no one is perfect and mistakes to happen unfortunately.
I was able to get the zipper down without a problem, even with the tooth missing, but once I tried zipping it back up, that's when it stopped and wouldn't pull forward.
I'm also really scared that if I alter it so I can swim on Sunday FinFolk won't let me send it back to repair
Mermaid Alea
01-10-2017, 01:11 AM
Very true I definitely would not alter it until Finfolk gets back to you. Good luck with getting the problem resolved! :)
Also it is a good thing you didn't have the tail on and then the zipper wouldn't unzip. That would not be fun being stuck inside the tail!

Great unboxing video, i have watched it several times. I also ordered the teal. I splashed out and ordered the additional fins too, looking forward to those A LOT. I will upload a video as well. Im glad I chose teal, in pictures and videos the colour really stands out and looks so deep and rich in colouring. I am in the UK and am yet to receive a dispatch email. I have been told it will be shipped last week (still nothing) then the response email said they hope to have all mythics dispatched MID january. So i have to sit out this week and next until i get that dispatched email. Then wait the long slog till its shipped all the way to London... Yes the wait is killing me slowly...

Update: finfolk messaged me back this morning!! They said I could either send it in to see if they can fix the zipper, or they can make me a new tail come February. The customer service was great, and I can't believe I even doubted the girls for a second.
They also mentioned that they zip up and down several times before sending tails out to make sure they're in working condition, and that they haven't ever heard of this being a problem before. I really hope it was just me with this problem.
I was very gentle getting the tail on, so I just can't understand how I could have broken it. Maybe it will forever remain a mystery.

Another wonderful review!!! Mermaid Gemini shows this tail in action in her review, and also shows what a tail looks like on someone taller. It would be great if FinFolk offered Mythic Tail accessories, for example, an Ariel waist-fin which would provide additional coverage if the body of the tail is slightly too short...I have a feeling I might be in need of one! (I ordered a size small but I am 5'7...

Will do! The taller woman featured in Mermaid Gemini's video is said to be 5'8 and I think the conclusion was that the body of the tail was too short--it seemed to fit everywhere else and I thought she looked great, but the tail sits very, very low, which might be ok for some. I am mostly concerned about the potential for muffin-tops and the tail sliding down when swimming/dolphin kicking...But I will let you know!

I just got a response from Mermaid Bubu, and she made the top herself! Her Mythic Tail was too big, so she altered it herself and sewed the remaining scales onto a bra; so innovative! I hope FinFolk offer a top like that in the future as an alternative to their very lovely silicone tops, or perhaps they can offer an extra scale pack that can be used to repair one's tail and/or to create one's own top.

That's clever. The extra bag of scales seems to be a good idea for multiple things xD
And Mermaid Gemini's review was very nice, especially when she mentioned the scuffing on the heel scales. The height is interesting to know. Can't wait to see more of these tails ^^

I know the tails come with a few extra scales, but I wonder if in the future they will sell small amounts separately? Both because I'd be extra paranoid about breaking scales and because it would be fun to have some extras. Maybe even a grab bag of random color scales? Think of all the different hair ornaments and jewelry you could do with extra scales! Earrings, hair clip, hat pin...

So i have noticed something MAJOR on the mythic tails.
Mermaid Sarens tail (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dubb2IA6mDw&t=326s ) the scales on hers look to be stitched in one line. When she is wearing it the neoprene is stretched and thus the green neoprene shows through.
Mermaid Gemini's tail (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLVBHhZyxoM&t=7s ) the scales on hers are obviously over lapped.
What is going on? Can anyone else see this or is it just me? I am MEGA worried now. I want the scales on mine to be over lapped.

Wow I just watched her video. No my scales are pretty much in a line almost all over the tail. It's only in some spots, like where the hip fins would go and the scales directly above the fluke, that they overlap.
I wasn't trying to get mine rushed over or anything, I never asked to get it by a certain date. Maybe it's because they halve a certain number of scales and mers with more fins their tails look like it has more scales?
I'm not sure. I've tried emailing the twins too, about other things like my leggings. I was hoping since they haven't shipped yet maybe they could bring it to Mermania? I emailed about the mystery gift too, but they're just so busy I get the automated email instead.

I'm thinking MAYBE perhaps its because Saren doesnt have fins and gemini does ?? maybe that is why the stitching of the scales are different ?? but i cannot see why
edited post i just realised i am talking directly to you hah
I hope it's not size that makes the difference. It would be kinda crappy if tails that are larger have larger gaps between the scales. I'm scared for that now. :( like actually really concerned. 😬

I think the scales spacing is due to how much the size fits the person, i.e. where you fall in their measurements range. The scales are spaced a little more when Saren puts it on but are overlapped when it's laid down except for the parts where it's folded. Looking at Gemini's video, it does look a little baggier on her which explains why her scales don't stretch.
Looking at their sizing chart, there's a two inch difference between the sizes so if you fall in the middle of a size, you're mostly likely going to go down since it is neoprene and it does stretch. The website states
Sizing runs large. When in doubt, size down. The neoprene is moderately stretchy. Don't forget to check the measurement chart for most accurate size estimates.
They're handmade so there will be slight variance, but shouldn't be too much.

I agree that I think the issue may be due to stretch when the wearer puts it on. The tails are brand new, so there are bound to be some tweaks that can be made. I'm sure with feedback, the twins will be able to improve future tails. Speaking of which, get so excited y'all. The twins have been posting amazing things on their personal Facebooks and let me tell you, the Spring/Summer Mythic line is gonna be lit. 🔥🔥

You are absolutely right! I was pausing the Youtube videos for both to look more closely. Just looking at the tails, when they are not worn, it is very clear that Mermaid Saren's tail scales are sewn in straight rows with minimal overlap, whereas Mermaid Gemini's are overlapped quite tightly. If the scales aren't overlapped tightly like in Mermaid Gemini's tail, when a tail is put on and the neoprene stretches, there will be gaps between the scales...Oh dear!

Oh man, I'm so nervous about this now. I really hope everyone gets the quality they pay for, regardless of the size they ordered. I'd be really upset if just because I ordered a large, I get less scales than a small.

Ah thanks for that information! I generally like high waisted tails, but if it looked good I really wouldn't mind a low sitting tail... as long as it doesn't slide down, indeed. Anyway really curious about how you'll like your tail. Hope it meets your expectations :)

I'm really really upset. The second time I've ever put my Mythic tail on, so I can take her on her maiden swim and the left monofin strap RIPS. It's 2/3 of the way done. I'm very afraid the next time I put the tail on I will rip it and the tail will be unusable.
What do I do? Can I fix the shooter monofin strap? Has anyone had this problem with shooter monofins?

Am I the only one extremely annoyed with the lack of communication on these tails? Not one email since I placed the order, no response to Facebook/Instagram messages and still no tracking number when we were promised these tails by "mid January" if you ordered during Black Friday. I understand these tails are in high demand, but they were advertised as "ready made" tails and they obviously aren't. For the money we paid, shouldn't we at LEAST get an update on what's happening?
I'm annoyed too. I emailed them twice about an address change and no response. It's frustrating. I know that they're super busy but dang. :(It's a little disheartening

Totally agree with you on the update!!!I got a response via FB yesterday (regarding my leggings) but they also said, they had a whole bunch of tails that were shipping out over the next couple of days. Looks like mine was included. I ordered Magenta on 11/14, so hopefully you will hear something soon. She also said she was going to get the sizing info for the leggings...but they also said that months ago. The tails, I assumed would run later than expected considering they sold so many. I find it more frustrating asking for a sizing chart back in Nov and still not knowing the sizing for the leggings. Anytime I buy clothes online, there is always a size chart. That should have been figured out and posted when all the clothing first appeared for sale online. I also feel that the clothing that needs to be exchanged should be done in a timely manner, since they are not physically making those. I sent my leggings back in early Dec and am still waiting on the exchange.
**I finally got my silk veils from Poland that I was waiting on too...yay for one thing ;)

The monofin is a shooter. I actually did use water down lotion, same thing I use for my Finis trainer. The only issue is with the black liner they have inside it gets a bit tricky to stick you feet in until you reach the straps

Aqua socks!!! I use Finis aqua socks when wearing my Finis foil monofin or Aquarius monofin (they have a smooth bathing suit feel to them), and I use Pod neoprene socks for the heavier Mahina Merfin. They help your feet slide in easier and prevent blisters (no blisters or broken toenails since using aqua socks). :-) I have found another handy tip would be to make sure your feet are as far into the foot pockets before putting the straps over your heels. Hope this helps!

Hmmmm, I am not so sure. I came by this photo on Instagram of a blue tail with extra fins, which shows rows of scales and gaps of neoprene:
https://www.instagram.com/p/BPQxkx2AgKv/?taken-by=genevieve1510
I must say though, I saw Mermaid Saren's video of her swimming in her tail, and she looked stunning! Her tail looked sleek and shiny and you could barely tell there were any gaps. Most of the tails that are popping up on Instagram look as though their scales have been sewn in rows. Mermaid Gemini seems to have the only tail so far that I have come across that has tighter overlapping of scales. Perhaps the twins will take that on board for future mythic tail creations...

Thank you for this! This makes me feel better and I will note this in my final review video.
As for swimming in the water, those neoprene gaps do not matter AT ALL in water. All I've seen in my video footage is the shimmery scales.
Honestly I feel the twins were very right, these tails were made for water. To use them on land I feel crates more problems. But in water theres no problems at all! It swims so beautifully and keeps me very warm in cold water.
How is the buoyancy of the tail, Saren? I know neoprene can be quite 'floaty'. 🙂

In a saltwater pool it wasn't very buoyant at all. In fact I was surprised with how much I was sinking, since neoprene is supposed to help you float. The weight of the scales, fluke, and the water does seem to counter the buoyancy of the neoprene. However I'll see how it is in the ocean and in a regular chlorinated pool.
Thanks! Good to know. ☺

I use the Finis socks (I have them in black and purple) and they feel like bathing suit material and are quite thin:

The Pod fin socks are made of 3 mm neoprene, thicker than the Finis ones and better for heavier monofins :-)

Pro tip: do NOT use Vaseline with your tail. Feel free to use a waterbased lube or just water itself. Water is the safest and easiest to clean slip on option. Steer straight clear of Vaseline. It'll gunk up your tail and drainage holes.

I don't think it came broken I think it didn't fit right when she got it and due tot he type of zipper it was, broke(she commented on my own post saying she felt it ran small) so she removed the dorsal fin herself and had a friend help her put a different zipper on for an easier fit.
I think it's great that she was able to do that, but she did add in the comments on FB she hadn't yet contacted Finfolk about it.
I want to just remind people as this is the first launch of the product there will be little things like that here and there that happen, but from what I see Finfolk are working their butt off to do replacements or fix any issues that pop up. It's all a learning experience. :)

When I first saw that photo I thought it was magenta, orange, and the Nile. But now looking back at it, it's indeed purple. I'm not surprise they also got a sneak peak, that Singapore mermaid pod is fairly popular and would benefit from mid-range tails. Plus, like Hyli, the'll be good models considering their training and experience.
It seems like the entire sample size of who's received and tested these tails has had one issue or another. But it's just a small size so far. There's been a few more who have started popping up on instagram randomly who haven't had any issues. Only time will tell :P
I'm curious how waterlogged they are though on orders :/

I think it's great that she was able to do that, but she did add in the comments on FB she hadn't yet contacted Finfolk about it.
I want to just remind people as this is the first launch of the product there will be little things like that here and there that happen, but from what I see Finfolk are working their butt off to do replacements or fix any issues that pop up. It's all a learning experience. :)
Thank you, yes, she did mention how it happened (I had messaged her in the comments section of the Instagram post) and I did suggest that she contact FinFolk to let them know. You are right about new products and that the process is a learning experience and also that FinFolk are working tirelessly to offer impeccable custo-Mer service :-) Their work is truly amazing!

I love the purple one!! wow. I'm concerned about the sizing length wise. I'll need a large but I'm also really tall at 5'10-11 so if I were considering ordering one I might need to somehow lengthen mine.. Maybe in time they will have a solution for that. Or do a tall Tail like how jeans have petite and tall sizes.

I'm definitely ordering a mythic tail in the future, but I want to get in better shape and go down a tail size first (I'm about to leave for the gym, yay fitness goals!). It's super tempting to just order one now, I miraculously have the money, but waiting gives them time to work all the little bugs out, improve their design, and release more colors. Keeping my fins crossed for a black tail...

I can't remember who mentioned it, but I've tried my tail in the pool and in the ocean and I'm probably going to stick to swimming in pools with my mythic tail. I love it so much, but the ocean was just too rough. I've already lost a decent number of scales on the back side of the tail :C
Before I even wore it to swim anywhere though, I lost a couple of scales just picking it up and moving it into another room (and this is my baby so I fought to be as gentle and conscious of the scales as possible). Has anyone else had this problem? I've manged to find some of the fallen scales and put them aside to sew back on later, but I hope Finfolk will release a pack of scales available for purchase to do repairs because the few they sent me will definitely NOT cover it.
I am actually a little upset though. I understand that it's a specialty item and you need to be delicate with it, but if it's losing scales by just being picked up and put back down that's a problem :C I still love this tail and will fix and alter and fiddle with it as much as needed (it could be fun to customize it as it needs repairs!) but considering I spent about $1K on this tail, which took me a few years to save up, I just feel like this shouldn't be as fragile as it is, considering it's a functional piece and not just a costume.
How do y'all feel about it? Am I just being too harsh or am I justified here? I don't want to be super rude and expect too much, but I also don't want to just say this is OK either........

Hiya Mermaid Claudia! Sorry to hear about your scales. I am still waiting for my tail, so I can't comment on personal experience thus far. However, on their website with regards to their Mythic Tails, it specifically states that: "The mermaid scales that adorn the bodies are fully colored with a metallic sheen, lightweight, and made of a durable resin. They are hand sewn and adhered onto the bodies to ensure longevity and quality...Due to the nature of this product, occasional loss of scales is to be expected, which is why additional scales are provided at no extra cost." From what I have seen, they have been very good with their customer service, and if your scales are falling off unprovoked, I am sure they will be able to help you out. There have been a few mers that expressed their hope that FinFok will offer a bag of scales (for tail repairs, pattern customization, accessories, etc) to purchase in the future.

Nope. I bought my tail during pre-sale and received a "ready for shipment" notice on Jan. 3rd which had a tracking number indicating USPS had created a label but hadn't received it yet. I contacted them on Jan. 9th informing them of this and was advised that my tail would be going out the next day. Tracking on USPS remained static, so I contacted them again 5 days ago and they said my tail was in a box waiting to go out with the next shipment which I thought would be the one they just posted about, but so far, it doesn't seem so. My USPS tracking is still static and I didn't receive a dispatch email. Usually I wouldn't be so nervous/anxious, but my husband and I are going on a trip to New Zealand and the Cook Islands at the end of the month--a once in a lifetime trip--and I specifically invested in one of their pre-sale tails as it was initially advertised as being ready in December--and it was an investment, because the Australian dollar was pretty crap that day! Otherwise, I would've waited to let them iron out the bugs and have more colour options. I have contacted them to confirm whether or not my tail did go out, but they are so busy, they probably won't notice my email until after Mermania! Anyhoo, it is what it is. I understand it's all a learning process for them, but I am having trouble containing my disappointment.
I should also mention that seeing this comment on Instagram the other day got my hopes up

I really hope you get yours as soon as possible. I find it ridiculous that you've purchased since the presale and still don't have any word on your order. I have the same UPS notice in the email they gave me, with just the label made. I'm hoping they don't do the same to me as I have a cruise coming up myself. [emoji53]

You are not AT ALL being too harsh, Claudia. You spent big money on this.
Assuming that you didn't have to save up but were just able to slap it on a credit card and pay it off in a month or two, and even assuming you had paid only 1/10 of what you DID pay, I would say that you are absolutely entitled to complain and have things Made Right. Basic Contract Law - Covered this my second week of classes, very first semester of law school. ;-)
And yes, as far as schools go, I'd rather be in a school of fish.
Heck - if you know law school, I'd probably rather be in a school of fish caught in a trawling net...

I'm not sure why but the transition of colors is so much better in that photo; probably the lighting though.

i am thinking if the scales fall off and i am lucky enough to retrieve them, i have some e6000 glue, what do you guys think about stitching the scales back on and for added security applying a tiny bit of glue behind the scales ? good idea or no? any ideas thoughts and feelings welcome

I am not an expert! But if you use E6000 for the scales your tail, I feel you should apply the glue to the scale above the loose scale and glue it to that, and NOT to the neoprene underneath the scales. I think dried up glue on the neoprene will decrease the fabric's stretch, and possibly cause tearing. Other than that, stitching + glue for extra security sounds like a good idea.
Also, extra scales are provided with your tail with no extra cost. :)

yeah perhaps applying glue on the neoprene itself would be a bad idea. your idea sounds good but i hope it wouldn't make the tail stiff? but if applied to one scale it'd be ok. but not a good solution for all over the tail. it'd make the whole thing stiff i guess. have to be a work in progress with ideas on how to keep these scales on. be interesting to see others ideas on this. wonder what the twins may advise too.

If glue is too risky after all, you could ask a sewing shop for an extra strong type of thread that will not (easily) tear. I used something like that once for a project, it was untearable and I'm pretty strong.

thanks, good advice. i think the thread the twins used is already supposed to be strong anyway

Yeah I would double thread all the scales, considering what I've heard about that E6000 glue, I'm surprised people still use it. You'd also need a good needle for the neoprene as well.

Some mers have used fishing line as thread to sew on sequin scales. That could work if you have trouble with the thread.

Not mythic tail related, but I would like to share if that's ok, ahem, I noticed some very cool monofins from Finis in one of Merman Arion's Mermania videos! They are called the "Luna Mermaid Monofin", made of a flexible silicone and look like a perfect insert for a fabric tail or even just for dolphin kick training! (Again, apologies for sharing a non-Mythic Tail related post--perhaps the moderators could suggest a better place to post it)! I found the full info about it on the 2017 Surf Expo Website:

I didn't get to actually swim in the tail myself, but I was sitting right next to the people Abby and Bryn helped get into them. I heard nothing but good from them. Everyone who tried it said the tail was amazing and they loved it.
They do make loud clattering and snapping noises when you flip over and and get into the water even on a yoga mat and I know that the scales held up for that so don't worry too much.
Also the divers in the bottom of the pool did bring up a lot of things including some scales from the mythic tail, so if you swim in a pool I would look around and check before you left.
I hope this was a little informative, maybe someone else will come a long that actually tried it out. I know of at least two mermen who did...

Ok, that's interesting! It might be that the scales are coming off because the knots are coming undone, and if the thread/line only goes around once, there is nothing to keep it attached to the neoprene. I bet just reinforcing any loose scales, or scales particularly over the knees and heels, by starting with the needle between the scale and the neoprene, leaving an end of line/thread, looping the thread into the neoprene and through the holes twice and then tying, a surgical knot in the two loose ends between the scale and the neoprene (so it would be hidden under the scale) would do the trick. That way should the knot come undone, there is that extra length of thread/line securing the scale to the neoprene. Surgical knots are great at securing thicker thread / fishing-line material. That would take a lot of time securing each individual scale! Alternatively you could secure several groups of scales at the same time with a running stitch and just ensure that the starting and finishing knots are secure. Any thoughts?

It was a bit too difficult to sew through the neoprene with a standard hand needle without it wanting to break on me. I had someone recommend the same e6000 glue to keep the string from running through the first scale. I'm just really disappointed that I haven't even performed in the tail yet and the quality is failing me.
This is disheartening... this seems to be a common trend in these tails... 😔

good idea with the glue. doesnt give you much faith the tail will hold up for long. :(

I've messaged the girls for a solution after talking to my mother about it. My mother was absolutely livid about it, considering I only just received it in the post yesterday and haven't worn it (because of surgery I had this week). I'm waiting for a response from them now. Glue definitely won't hold during my gigs this summer and for $800, I need a better solution.

Can any mers help me with this. I already have a scale popping loose when it hasn't even been worn yet. It decided to pop in the worst place too, even though we were extremely careful with it. I'm super disappointed. https://instagram.com/p/BPsimvujLkY/
Oh dear! You can either, tie a very good knot in the remaining ends of the thread/line to prevent the other scales from coming loose and then sew on the scale that just came off (I posted earlier on how I would do it), or, try and put the thread/line on a needle (you may have to remove or loosen a couple of more scales to do this) then tighten and sew the scales back on.
Good luck!!! May I ask, how did you find the sizing of your tail?

I would not glue it, but you can get a heavier duty needle..that should work. I was able to use that to sew through heavily painted neoprene...it wasnt easy, but I would use a plier to push and pull it through.

^^^^^^^^this. I would recommend an upholstery needle and thread. Double up on the thread if you want to be super duper safe. I've never had it break on me, and I'm rough on my neoprene tails.

I was sent the wrong size, so have to send it back. They are not online very often, so it might take a little bit. PS..I am still waiting on my leggings exchange by the way..LOL...there were supposed to contact me via sizing before my tail shipped, I didnt hear from the though..and I wasnt expecting my leggings to be in the box, but I hoped...LOL

Mermaid Machhalee your video shows what I was kind of suspecting earlier on... So it looks like to make these tails quickly they are not doubling or tripling up on the thread that much. I personally have very limited sewing experience, but from what little I have sewn I have found that when I sew something down once or twice it will start to get lose and even come off much sooner. Like one swim and it will be loose. Once I learned to take the time to really sew something down tight with lots of stitching, I noticed that I had (so far) no problems. For example I sewed snaps in my fluke and I used thick thread and went through each hole on the snap multiple times and it has stayed secure. When you sew through say a scale multiple times it leaves room for error so if one stitch wasn't all that tight the next one will compensate, etc.
To make these tails quickly and keep costs down it works better to use less thread. Honestly though after seeing the small amount of thread holding that scale on I would be tempted to try and re-enforce every single scale with individual stitching.
I really like these tails and I know it has to be difficult to mass produce tails that need individually sewn on scales. I hope that the twins can figure out a way to make the scales stay on longer. :)

I can't believe you were sent the wrong mythic tail size!!!!!! Eeeeeeeep!!!! I ordered my mythic tail in a small too and I am just praying it fits--I just checked the tracking and it JUST left Los Angelos! Our trip is quickly approaching (tick tock tick tock).. I am also sorry to hear about your leggings and hope they arrive soon--mine arrived today, and I can't get over how good the quality is! I wanted to thank you so much for one of your previous posts alerting us to your dimensions and the leggings size that were too small; that is why I was able to gauge the size that would best fit me: I am 5'7, waist 28, hips 34 and the medium leggings fit me perfectly--no muffin-tops, woot woot :-) I also decided to get the "sweetheart shark dress" in medium and it fits like a tube dress; I was hoping to avoid a skin-tight feel as I wanted it for a bathing-suit cover. If someone my size wanted a skin-tight fit, a small in the dress would've worked too.

They are beautiful tails but I never understood why one would choose to use a straight stitch on stretchy fabric. Would have been more ideal to use a zigzag stitch. I see the scales have 2 holes each. Could've been done with V---V, into each hole. Or an additional V across the scale from each stitch hole.

What happened was I ordered a small, but afterwards, I was worried it would be too big, so I messaged them right away, they recommended I get an XS based on my hip size, and they said they changed it on the order. I am thinking with all the chaos of trying to get tails out somehow the original order got misplaced and they went by the original size I ordered. I should have touched base with them beforehand, but didnt think to. They said my leggings are on the way..so Yeah. :)

thats surprising given the high price of the item. perhaps that was one of the delivery options when placing the order? maybe you could leave a note on your door/doorbell etc for the delivery driver to leave with a neighbour ?
i will take loads of pictures however when i try to upload a pic on this website no matter how small i shrink the image it is always still too large ?? no idea how to get round this if anyone can help

Yeah, I don't quite understand it. The only shipping option I recall being given was nearly $300 AUD. I've never heard of something that expensive not requiring a signature...anyhow, I will let FF know about that...
As for uploading pictures, if you have a mac, open your picture in the previewer on your desk-top (not in iPhoto), and click on "tools", click on "adjust size", click on the drop down menu "fit into 'custom' pixels" and you will see a bunch of size options. The size you select has to be less than 1500 x 1500 pixels. Select one less than the required size and click "OK". You can then upload the resized photo. Just make sure you resize a copy of the original photo! There may be another way, but that is how I figured how to do it :-)

LOL, the previewer automatically opens when you open a photo saved on your desk-top! So when, for example, you drag a photo from your email onto your desk-top, or "save-as" it to your desk-top, or copy and paste a photo from iPhoto to your desktop, when you double click and open that photo (on the desktop), that is the previewer. When you double click on the photo on your desk-top, you'll see a "tools" in the top bar :-)

Thank you all!!!! I love my tail!!! I got the teal teal without the fin-upgrade ;) It fits me very well at the waist and hips, but a little bit baggy under the bum--but you can't really tell. I am about 5'7 and have a 28" waist, 34" hips and 36-37" around the largest part of my bottom (I got a size Small). I think it's because I am a little taller that the length of the tail sits lower, so the waist actually comes up to where my hips are, the "hips" of the tail reaches to around my bottom and then the largest part of the tail is just under my bottom. It was only my first time trying it on. Next time I will try and gently stretch the neoprene upwards when zipping up (with the help of my husband), to see if that makes a difference. Otherwise, the scales overlap beautifully, and the zipper (even without the dorsal) is hidden very well! I think the best way to tell how well it fits is when it gets into the water, so I will keep you posted! If it's still a bit too big, I will attempt to alter it and make a top out of the extra scales like Mermaid Bubu did :-) 40150

so as the hours past i am increasingly becoming so very very exhausted. i actually feel unwell with the exhaustion. i have an extreme migraine and i feel so drowsy. I swam in the tail for a good three hours today.
do you mers think this tail is too much for me? I am thinking, with the weight of the saturated neoprene, plus all of those scales, plus the weight of the fluke, plus the drag of the additional fins, plus all of me being a whole 5ft2 = the tail is too much for me? I must say I am not fighting back the urge to hop in the water with it again given how exhausted I am feeling. I have a mahina merfin and have been thinking making a tail out of that would be ideal. The mono fin is exceptionally loose on my feet too, my feet are red raw.
Please give me advice mers, if I am being silly or if I am making sense ?

Red-Raw feet isn't good. I can't really say about the tail, but three hours is no quick swim. Were you actually Swimming the whole time, or both swimming and just relaxing in the water? If the former, I would say you're just quite naturally worn out.

Mermaid Bubu's tail was too big on her and she said she improvised in making it smaller and using the extra scales to make a top (https://www.instagram.com/p/BPGGyhbjvgH/?taken-by=mermaid_bubu)--I sent her a DM last week to inquire as to how she did it, but I haven't heard back yet. If I do, I will let you know!
As for your feet, I've been there. I ended up investing in a pair of Finis Skin socks (which are thin and feel like bathing suit material). They are excellent by not only preventing blisters, but helping your feet to slide into the monofin easier--I wear them even if I am just wearing a tail on land. For a heavier/larger foot pocket monofin, you may want to get a pair of flipper socks which are thicker and made of neoprene. I purchased a pair of Pod aqua socks to use with my Mahina merfin--the first time I wore my Merfin, I was wearing the Finis skin socks and it not only gave me blisters, but also broke one of my toenails! Since wearing the thicker neoprene flipper socks, I haven't had any blisters or broken toenails.
Now for a Mythic Tail note: be very, VERY careful sitting in/shifting in it! My husband and I did a mini photo-shoot just for fun yesterday in our dining room. We had placed two yoga mats down and a sheet over-top the tiled floor. I sat up slowly to shift positions and I heard a crunch! It was one of the scales near the zipper. Doh! I am a bit apprehensive to take it to the pool now, even with a yoga mat and a towel. Does anyone have any advice?

No scales came off when i swam in mine. No crunching or breaking either. I used a beach towel by the side of the pool and hoisted myself into the water. Did the scale fall off? Did it crack but its still hanging on? There is glue in places on my tail and on the scales, so my next port of call would be to use some good glue and fix the broken scale? Perhaps get in touch with the twins and see what they think. These tails are so problematic tbh >.<

Hiya Emeraldina, thank you for your reply! I think it was just bad timing that when I wet from lying to sitting a scale must've been at the wrong angle and I crunched it under the bony part when I sat up. My buttock is even quite sore in that exact spot! Oh, well...just part of the scale cracked off and the silver lining is that it is still being held in place by one "button hole" and the support of surrounding scales. I have tried E6000 glue but unfortunately that didn't work. I was googling and it looks like there are a couple of glues you can use for resin, but I will have to attempt that when we're home! I finished packing at 6:30 this morning and we are off to the airport! I am just thrilled that my tail fit in my suitcase with room to spare for clothes :-) I will see how it holds up with some beach photos and ocean swimming and let you know--we've packed my yoga mat and two beach towels, so we should be good!

yeah swimming the whole time. i had driven an hour to this place so i wanted to make the most of it and it was my first swim too. i wanted to do all the moves and work out if this tail is for me or not. yeah my feet are that bad i dont think i can wear shoes for a few days.
I'm in pretty great shape (I rock climb, do ballet, and frequent hikes and cardio regularly) and when I'm swimming continuously for half an hour with or without a fin, I'm exhausted. Swimming is a KILLER workout and a tail just adds to it. Take a rest, and next time you're out there swim for 20 minute chunks and take some breaks in between. I mean, 20 minute breaks where you're just being casual or floating. Work up to 3 hours of continuous swimming. That's hard core!

It's my first post... :)
I ordered two Mythic tails on the beginning of December for myself and my friend. Should be the promotion on Black Friday. Therefore, I got nothing till today. No tracking number, no shipment information and even no feedback no matter email or FB message. Yeah, I posted on FinFolk Facebook. They just said it should be sent out on the beginning of February, just before their dad went to emergency surgery. I understand that's urgent and they got to get back to be with their dad. Therefore, they posted other promotion about buying tickets for having a customized tail. I was still waiting for their update since they said they can send out the LAST orders on the end of February.
I sent Facebook message and it was never read at all. That's frustrating!!!! Even more, I was starting to consider about silicone tails, but definitely not FinFolk. It's hard to contact and communicating with them...
Seatreasure,
I didn't get shipping info until yesterday and I ordered my tail back at the beginning of November. And I had to contact them three times about an address change.
I think their issue is that they're now too small for their demand. They have so many orders and as far as I can tell there's only the two of them running the business. Emails go missed and Facebook messages go unintentionally ignored. Not to mention I can't imagine the messages and emails they get from 12 year olds asking for free tails.
It's frustrating, and if they don't do something about it soon they will lose business, however their business has really just boomed in the last year and a bit. Plus they had another employee awhile ago and they were betrayed so I think they want to be careful to whom they divulge their trade secrets. There's a lot of factors.
They're not a bad company, just too small for their costumers needs and I think they understand that. ☺

I haven't ordered anything from them but just from being an observer I agree with what Avya said. Since Finfolk started they have only been making silicone tails, something that is considered a 'luxury item' and is usually bought by people who are serious about mermaiding - usually those who have been in the community for a bit or have been a mermaid for a while - long enough to justify paying the money for a silicone tail. All of a sudden they come out with a much cheaper tail as well as a clothing line and random people who don't really know much about mermaiding but think it sounds cool are able to try it out because of these cheaper tails. Finfolk did a great job marketing their new brand too. Using social media, having a Black Friday sale, having a contest to win a free Mythic Tail (the requirements to enter certainly helped them get attention with the sharing and likes), all of these things just brought more and more attention to them which in turn brought in more and more sales. They even stated somewhere that they have sold way more tails than they were expecting. If they had known it would be such a big hit they might have tried to hire people to help them with production before they released this line, but as Avya said someone that worked with them went off and started making and selling silicone tails using techniques they learned from Finfolk - This has probably made it hard to bring in help because they are worried such a thing would happen again.
They are definitely swamped. Yes, it is lame that they are having trouble keeping up right now but I figure they will sort it all out just as they are still sorting out the kinks in the Mythic Tails themselves. They just didn't expect such a big, fast response to their new line of tails and they aren't used to producing big batches of products quickly since they were previously only doing custom silicone tailmaking.
That is how I see it at least. :)

Finfolk just announced they will release improved mythic tails soon and they are about to hire more crew! Hopefully this will solve current problems.

I'm excited about their new type of tails they're going to release. I'm guessing they will be fabric tails styled like the leggings.

Mermaid Alea I completely agree..
Although I did order a Mythic tail, and it arrived a bit over 3 weeks ago now.. However when I unboxed it one of the foot fins was not attached to the tail at all :( I've tried contacting them a number of times about this.. In 3 weeks I've still received no response. It's kind of annoying to see them still posting on Facebook and marketing a product when they don't have the time to answer an existing customers concerns about a product that arrived broken :/
I agree that they are simply swamped though.
Frankly I gave up waiting for them.. It had been 3 months and I still didn't have a complete tail, so I didn't want to send it back, I waited 2 weeks for a response on what I should do about the fin in regards to returns/ compensation.. No such luck.
Gave up, and I've gone swimming in the tail now, didn't want to wait any longer.
I won't be able to return the tail now, which is fine, I just want to be able to fix it .. Which it looks like I will have to do myself.
The tail does swim beautifully though. I've had great fun swimming with it. I took my GoPro with me to the pool today and captured some great footage, I'll have to upload it somewhere.

The "level" of mermaiding has nothing to do with good customer service. For someone like me ordering a mythic tail, I'm doing so because of not only my budget but to gain some experience before making a major purchase. Communication with an order, tracking numbers and shipping should come 100% with anything you order. I wouldn't excuse them just because some people are new to mermaiding. If they bought these tails out and in an abundance, they should have been more prepared for things to go wrong, had someone to answer emails and really made sure the product was of quality before selling. I like my tail, but it's incredibly defective and I wouldn't look to order a full silicon tail from Finfolk, or another Mythic tail.

Well, I was pretty harsh with Finfolk because there were delays since they accepted more orders than they had supply for, so many of us didn't receive the tails in time for Christmas.. And when mine did arrive it had a fin that wasn't attached. Plus I didn't receive back any kind of reply regarding repair for over 3 weeks. (They saw my post here and got in touch, hooray!)
Their father did have a heart attack and had to go to hospital, and it's only a small family company so the communication delays are a little more understandable.
So, all of that aside, the tails themselves are fantastic to swim in, feels so lovely and natural in the water. I've have a great time at the local swimming pools.
I'm still very happy to have purchased a tail. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170228/bccadf3a866793aad293b5a1dedf11f3.jpg

Despite how gorgeous they are, I still don't like the Mythic Tails. I also feel this was ill-timed with how backed up their silicone orders are and how small they still are. The next step of waiting until all the next tails are made before selling them is a smart but a late move.
@Mermaid Machhalee In defense of Finfolk, don't assume their silicone tails are like the Mythic ones. They're been working with full silicone far longer and you can see their work in use from many other mers; they've solidified that quality. These tails are new and they are still hammering out the kinks as they've had to do with the silicone. The frustration is understandable with the new line and it's sad to see how some have received defective tails.
I feel this first batch should have been sort of like a kickstarter, you make a few, sell a few and wait for reviews with the knowledge these are just testers. Granted we don't know how long they've been testing these or how long they've actually been made. I'm curious who's actually making them all for the quality to be so floppy. I know they're expanding and looking into hiring more crew but they can't still just be the two of them still. They have good goals at least for this year to hammer out the cons of their business (waiting time, communication, etc). So hopefully they'll stick good to them.
@Karri3 That looks so pretty on you, I hope you can fix that fin. That's definitely heart breaking about the broken fin. If you're not a big fan of the heel ones, maybe you could rip them other one off? I know that's the opposite direction of attaching it, but hey it's one direction you could go and maybe use it for something else? Also very cute top.
I just had an idea of using your heel fins as a top if you pair it up with more silicone if you wanna get creative?

@Mer Coralia I actually did think about pulling the other heel fin off, funnily enough. As I almost asked when I ordered for them not to be included, but decided it would be too much hassle and I would probably still be paying full price for the fin set anyway (as the website options only had "full fin set")
I feel like the universe gave me a test run, you have one on, one off, choose which do you like better :D haha, turns out I quite like the heel fins.
And I think if I had tried to pull the other one off I would have damaged the neoprene base. Best not to try and do that.
The bra is made out of layering latex, I was working on it during the week, it's still not quite done yet. So the silicone heel fin wouldn't go with the latex, It would be easier to just make more latex fins.

Bra in progress, it was good enough to take to the pool at the time but I still have a lot of other things to add.

So I got my tail today!!
It's beautiful...
But it's way too big.
I measured myself over and over again and it was a perfect fit. 😔 what should I do? The tag is still on it. 😢 I don't want to return it, but I feel like I don't have a choice. 😢

I've heard good things lately from them. The only thing is the basic tails are all I have the budget for and I'm not a fan of them (just a personal preference, I think they're beautiful and great value, just not for me).
I did manage to get it on with my mom's help. It's baggy around the hip area but okay everywhere else. I don't know...

Maybe you can take it in a tad so it fits better?
Do his basic tails have drainage holes in the fluke? I asked via Facebook comment and he never tesponded.

That's what I'm thinking. I'm just not sure how. I know it can be done- Mermaid Bubu did it and made an awesome bra with the extra scales. I just don't want to wreck such beautiful art!
And I'm not sure if Mertailor does... I have a feeling he doesn't. He has them in his full silicone ones now, but as far as I can tell that's only been a relatively recent addition.
