I was considering getting a Merrowfins basic tail over a mertailor, since I trust them more, but I am considering saving up a little more to get one of these since I have loved Finfolk's designs since I started getting into mermaiding!
I cannot wait to see the new website and more info on these products.

Wait a second... In the other topic before the news was released I was saying that it would be cool if it was a monofin. Well, if you look at the scales connecting to the fluke, they don't blend into the fluke like what is classic for Finfolk to do. Maybe the fluke really does detach from the body!

I'm curious what the top part is made out of. It looks like sequins.

They mentioned they use the same monofins as the current silicon tails so the trainer and competitor? They look really small for the competitor though?

Edit: Also, if the fluke can be removed you can then wear their scale printed leggins with it when you swim.

I was saving for MerNation's "Genesis Tails", but I think I'm going to change my mind, since this is less than half of that price.
I'm also just wondering if different fluke shapes will be available at an extra price. I can't wait to find out *eeeeek*

I have a feeling that these tails won't be made in full silicone, and I don't really expect them to be either, for such a good price.
I'm super excited, as I've only ever owned fabric tails!!:D

they just got back from a trip and I know they were making tails right up to the second they left, and made tails the second they got back. Because of my insider knowledge, I do not believe this new project should change existing customer's wait times very much if at all. Obviously this is not an official statement. But from what I have discussed with them it really doesn't seem like it should affect anything due to how they've set it up

They're raised individual scales, but yes they give a sequin appearance :D (I think due to the pigment they get that extra shine that sequins get)

This sounds interesting. So basically the process works kind of like buying fabric tails where you have different color choices to pick from but not a lot of customization. To me being able to add or not add fins is a pretty nice option.

I am so excited for Abby and Bryn. These tails seem like a good 'break' project where when they need a break from working on a silicone tail which requires more thought due to all the customization going on, they can then work on one of these mythic tails. When I am working on art I like to move from a newer, harder to think about project to an easier project where I know exactly what to do.

The other day I was asking if Finfolk tails have a metallic sheen, so reading that these tails have that shine definitely struck a cord.

I get cold easily and I have concluded that my favorite places to swim are in springs - which are cold...So a neoprene tail has certainly been on my mind.

Next, the scales being made of resin makes me think the tail might be a lot sturdier for land photos. Also the sturdiness means that if you let a friend put on this tail, you wouldn't have to worry so much about them damaging it.

There are so many pros I can think about... I am about to graduate in December so maybe this could be a graduation present ha *cries*.

Now I really want to see a close up of the scales though...

me too!! and I was thinking that same question. But in order to get them out so quickly and I am starting to doubt the size is custom. Cant wait to find out more

The waistline might be elastic with an adjustable clasp to change the size. They did get to work with one of Hannah's tails, and some older photos of one of her sequin tails showed that she had a setup inside the top of the tail kinda like that.

I am loving the blue and green tails so much. I'm really hoping I'll be able to get one, given my height (swimming down here at 4'8). Tails aren't usually made for short people.

The shortness thing was a question I had too but I don't see how they can make a tail designed to fit average people also fit those who are shorter/ taller. I'm one of those people who the fin fun tails reach like up to my boobs nearly but it's okay because I can just roll it down. I can't see this tail being roll down able. On that note though I'd love to see how they fit shorter people :)

As someone with hamster feet, this worries me a bit. I've never worked with a shooter before. Any small footed mers out there who have?

Push come to shove, I'd just get multiple pairs of neoprene socks to try and make up for the difference, but I'd prefer not to.

See I'm the opposite. I can squeeze into finis M just fine but I prefer the L as I can wear my neoprene booties with it. I'd assume they went with the medium size but it would be nice to know exactly.

It's nice they had the green one without fins. I think the fins complete the look and the dorsal is perfect for hiding the zipper. I can't wait for that video.

So I saw where they explained to someone that the hip measurement is taken from your hip bone I think I have been measuring myself the wrong way for tails this whole time because my Mom told me to measure myself lower than that for hips. :doh: Anyways at least now I know. :lol:

Technically speaking your mother is correct. Anyone who does sewing will tell you that your proper 'hip bones' are a lot lower than most people think (around your lap area where they're telling people to measure their 'butt'). The place they are telling you to measure is classified as your 'high hip' at least from a technical point of view and I can assume they've done it that way to avoid confusion from the general public.

I suppose it depends on the tail maker. Most of them include a measuring chart with pictures of exactly where abouts to measure so that helps clear things up a bit but like I said unless you have sewing experience it's an easy thing to not know. It's probably easier to just call it the 'hip' and 'butt' haha

That said, I really love the teal and pink tails! (Especially eyeing the teal, as I think my mermaid name tends to imply blue.) Not as fond of the others only because the color transitions on them look a lot more abrupt, which isn't my personal preference. :) However, if you like bright tails, I think they'd be really nice!

I jumped in head first and got the magenta tail, but I echo what Coralia said. Also I wish that the green tail was darker or brighter for the most part because then it would have ben my top pick for sure! The tail i'm waiting on will be orange and blue so i wanted a different color scheme :)

thanks for posting the video haven't seen it before, i ordered that colour. still happy with that choice as i didn't want something too loud as i have anxiety i don't want to stick out like a sore thumb too much lol and teal is my fave all time colour most of my possessions are either blue/teal

the fins move gorgeously through the water. i like how the dorsal flops around and the hip fins move up and down with the body, the heel fins compliment that fluke so nicely too. the fluke moves just right too not too stiff not too floppy.

The fins are an extra $250 which is purchased separately. After the presale they'll be $300.

They only have XS available for the teal now. Bryn emailed me saying I may have been the one who took the last of the mediums. It seems the teal was the most popular because the other colors don't seem to have any sizes that have sold out

I'm really liking the way the tail moves in the water. I was worried it would be a bit rigid. I second the mer who mentioned a close up video of the tail like they did when they released the individual scales. That would be wonderful.

I'm about 90% sure I'll be snapping up one of these, come springtime. However, I'm also holding out on Mermaid Kariel's cheaper tails.

So many choices!

Hi Saren! The foot pockets will go by size, starting with a 6-8 sized shoe in the XS, 8-10 in the Small, etc. there will be plenty of room for bigger (whaddya call 'em?) feet, as well as room for fin socks! :)

So I would fit the body of the XS perfectly for the Mythic tail, but my shoe size is around 9 - 10 which is the monofin size in the Small tail. I know it is better to have a monofin that is too big than too small. I wouldn't want my feet feeling squished.

I'm dying to know what the new colour is gonna be as well? I'm thinking it's not purple, because while that is a legging colour that doesn't have a tail to match, the first image of the Mythic tails had her wearing purple leggings holding a green tail, which makes me think of some sort of Ariel type vibe was supposed to be there. I'm also really hoping it's gonna be purple though because I'd love to see that, but a colour like orange would be cool as well... or maybe it's something completely unexpected, like black. How cool would that be? But that's not very probable because not many people want black tails (or so I would think, I mean I would but I don't know about the general public lol), they prefer lighter colours.

I am really interested to see how these tails play out! I am hoping to begin shooting a mermaid film next spring, and these are the perfect cost to invest in for my two main mers. I just want to see the reviews before I purchase any. (Assuming I can save up enough to buy two lol.) I had a tail with a similar make to these, and it took FOREVER to dry. I'm talking almost a week, or a few days if I was really lucky. It sucked. I never used it because it was so bad. Finfolk is much much higher quality though, and so I'm thinking theirs will be better. I'm hoping so anyway! I really like that teal, and the new goddess one! :)

I just emailed them asking about different (smaller) sizes in the future and Abby told me that they WOULD be adding another size down from xs in January. I love the Nile goddess tail but she said they likely wouldn't be making more of the same tail but would have different new colours in January when they release the smaller size. She did not give measurements for the smaller size but just said that it would be smaller than the xs. I'm hoping for 23-24 " waist! *fingers crossed *

My tail is finally here and I somehow love it even more than I thought I would~
I've never had a neoprene, let alone partial silicone, tail before. My only other tail is a Finfun.com Rio Red mermaid tail with their pro monofin, and a lone Finis Wave monofin (no tailskin cover).

Goodness where to start....
Overall it is HEAVY. At least for me. It's roughly 23 pounds from what I can tell, with the fluke being a particularly weighted part.
The silicone fluke, pectoral fins, heel fins, and dorsal fin(s)/halves all look beautiful. The colors are awesomely blended and they are wonderfully floppy~<3
The scales are a bit of a mystery for me. They're certainly rigid, and they feel pretty strong! I wouldn't be too worried about snapping one really, but I'm still inclined to be careful on a hard surface with them, particularly when suiting up. There seem 5 colors of scales that are layered down the tail, kind of like sequined tails, that range from an almost peachy-orange-creme color, to a salmon-y color, a hot pink, a rather strong but deep red, and an eggplant purple color. There are ten extra scales included (two of each color) for any emergency repairs. The purple scale is completely opaque, while the other colors are all slightly see-through. The scales definitely shimmer too, which looks super great in person!
The neoprene backing is black on the inside and a hot pink on the outside, and the threading looks pretty strong to me. It's a thick, plastic-like threading.
The zipper is a plastic(?) dive zipper, like the ones I've seen on SCUBA diving suits. At the very top of the tail at the waist there is a flap that folds over with a piece of Velcro helping keep it together.

Included with the tail was an order detail sheet, and a full color tail-care/safety information sheet.

I feel like in person this tail looks more like a range of the pink-red-purple spectrum, but in photos appears as more red based tail overall. For me this is awesome, since red is my favorite tail color, but how do you guys feel about that? I think some color correction would help the pink shades show better :)

It's interesting they tell you not to kneel in it. It's much safer to kneel in silicone since it just flexes to your body, resin wouldn't since it's more rigid.

How does the monofin feel in the fluke, if you don't mind me asking? I noticed there are two "sharp edges" towards the inward center.

yeah!! glad you got your tail!! It is hard to tell from your photos, but do you feel the colors are the same as they look on the Finfolk site? On there page they are so vivid and bright

From the photo above, I can see what Mermaid Claudia was talking aboutwhen she said that some of the scales are a little clear. That is a really neat effect. You know, it might be interesting to see Finfolk do one where the scales are very clear with maybe an opalescent shine.

As much excitement builds up for these tails, there was something I did want to bring up earlier and that was the delicacy of these tails on land. The mermaid Finfolk recently reposted, pixie_dustling, she posted a photo of the extra scales and stating how she already needed repairs.

Resin although harder, it is more likely to break for its rigidity. I feel like these tails were built more for swimming opposed to land events. Also doesn't neoprene take longer to dry or am I confusing materials?

Is this the first tail she has ever had though? Not saying that is the cause for the damage but I have noticed that some mers are a bit rough with their first tail. A tail whose scales feel hard such as mythic tails could create a false illusion that they are super sturdy but of course just like with sequin tails the scales can break or fall off.

Though it does make sense that the heel areas would be a problem area.

Well, hopefully there won't be too many issues with the Mythic Tails but I am sure Finfolk will find ways to improve it just as they continually improve their work on silicone tails.

They seem thin to me which would make them easier to break; or maybe that's just a trick on the transparency. I'm surprised people would be rough with them though, like I know its supposed to hold but thats together not against other stuff like hard surfaces. Even with silicone you're not supposed to drag it across the pavement and whatnot.

I'm betting for a lot of mers its their first tail or first upgrade from a fabric. Most of the Mythic owners so far who have popped up on my feed don't have previous mermaid-related pictures. The heel fins would at least give some protection at least.

Very true on the improvement and I did see that comment, I just forgot to add it in smoothly after finding that video. My bad. They have mentioned about the scales floating up around the waistline and trying to fix that.

That's something I would definitely not advise with this tail, considering the scales are attached individually and can form spaces between each other. It makes them easier to come off if you're in an unsmooth area. You should be fine if you're sitting in a chair during an event, or sitting on the sand. I just wouldn't advise sitting on rocks or concrete.

I purchased mine on Nov 14th. Still waiting also. They did send an email out a couple weeks ago about the delay. First batch went out for Christmas and the rest would be end of Dec. beginning of Jan. It should be soon now :)

Perhaps they sold more Mythic tails then they expected and thus it is taking them a while to make so many tails.

Ayesha Sosa has replied to the post saying she won. I was checking out her profile. She is SO deserving like, I feel awful for wanting to win. :$ Also she has an orange tail and Finfolk posted her name over orange scales. I am pretty sure one of the next Mythic Tails will be orange.

The discussion on that post is interesting too. She has good pros and cons but what mainly interested me is that she has lost 8 scales after only taking it out twice. Once again I see no previous evidence of her swimming in a mermaid tail so it could just be a beginner thing - learning how to swim in a tail, learning what surfaces you shouldn't wear your tail on, etc. This has me more and more curious about how the majority of mers will do with this tail.

I think it might be a beginner thing. I took mine out over 4 times and the only thing that happened was that one scale on my heels cracked, I have a magenta with fins. You have to be careful i only put it one with a yoga mat beneath me.

There are a few things that make it a little hard like getting you feet in to the mono fin but its the same it would be with any other tail with non detachable body.

I did talk to the girls (I had a zipper problem) and they spoke of making alterations on the second batch that will come out in january like double reinforcement in some locations.

Omg, that clip is exactly what I wanted to see. It looks absolutely incredible and really makes me happy that I got the fin upgrades! The fluke moves beautifully, not stiff at all like I was worried it would be. The color is stunning.

Not sure if anyone has already asked, I tried to look through the whole thread. If you get the extra fins, is it all of the fins? Could you just get some and not others? When you buy the fin sets, I'm almost 100% sure that the fin sets come with every fin, but I you could email them and ask to know for sure... :)

I got a 500$ cheque for Christmas (Thanks to my grandparents!) plus I have other cash saved up so I'm hoping to be able to snag one of these as well! Hopefully they come out with a purple one at some point! XD

agreed. Last they posted the fin upgrade included all the fins. there was not an option for only certain ones

I wish it had options. I want just the heel fins to hide the food bump. The others seem like they create to much drag. Also hoping for purple! I was disappointed when they had purple leggings but not a purple tail to match! Magenta was a close second though.

Yeah I'd prefer just having a dorsal fin or heel fins. While hip fins are pretty I feel like they'll create drag and get in the way. And I totally would love a purple option too!

Yeah I feel you. I probably would have gone with the same fin choices as you if the option was available. I guess it's because they're not customizing these tails at all. 😮

The point of these tails is "mass production". Besides different sizes, if they allowed multiple options for fins, it ups the time spent on the tails which is what they're trying to avoid. The individual customization is taken out to decrease time, another benefit of these tails. Plus they're not even just one full color, they're a gradient in several different variants. Hand sewed. Bla bla bla.

I'm pretty sure people understand this, and know this, hence my abrupt ending.

It'd be nice if they could offer more customization. I'd love just a solid color or just a three color gradient. I forget who suggested this, but buying sets of different scale colors to make your own sounds like an awesome idea for these tails. Of course that would be more on the buyer's work side to resew all the scales if they really wanted to switch out colors and you'd just have to buy the extra scales. But considering you'd get more customization out of it, not a bad trade off as long as you know how to sew. Otherwise that'll be hard.

I can't wait to see more of these tails in action, also I found a cool picture of one of the twins in it. Very sultry. I'll try finding it again to post here.

Also the matching tops. That's another addition... I wonder when those come into play... :swoon:

I hope down the road when they aren't as swamped with orders they seriously consider a "sew your scale tail kit" or something. I'd prefer the customization something like that would offer.

I can't wait to see the new colors. I'm really hoping for a black tail, but I know that's not a very common color choice.... I'd go for purple too!

I can't wait to see it! I ordered a teal tail too (without the fin upgrade) and I got the email it shipped! The tracking number wasn't in the email but in the link when you press the "view your order" button in the email. It's been 4 days and the USPS site still says a shipping label has been created but that they are still awaiting the item! We are going on holiday at the end of the month (somewhere tropical) and it was my dream to take my Mythic Tail with me! I truly, truly, truly hope it makes it here in time!!!!!!!!

want to add I am also waiting to hear about my leggings. I ordered them on Black Friday, they were too small (bc/ of no size chart). I sent them back. they finally confirmed they got them, and said they would issue a refund. I had told them several times that I wanted to exchange them. Still havn't heard about that either. (non related) Plus, my silk veils I ordered in Nov. from Poland are lost somewhere, and have not tracking..I am just feeling so frustrated b/c I have all these outstanding awesome things I am waiting for and don't know whats going on with any of them. Its esp. frustrating after knowing how much cash I have shelled out and noone messages me back.....
