People in the mer community, I am going to be teaching a water safety class at NC Mer-Mania 2017, and I want to get a feel for people's current safety and possible techniques people can use. I have a survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Y3CGC2W (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/L3DZFLY) to gather your input. Thank you.

Great idea!

I skipped two questions because I don't do freediving stuff, (the breath holding one and the one with weights.)

I did answer those two. After all, I swim under water as a mer, and I have figured out the weight to make me neutrally buoyant.

Any time you go under water you have to hold your breath, not just free diving. Many people use weights to be neutrally buoyant. You can just enter 0 for that value.

Oh yea, I meant I just do normal breath holding for underwater purposes. Not any of the fancy tricks you have listed.

If it counts, I also do sit on the side of the pool, and relax as much as possible to slow down my heartbeat, then go in the water. I've stopped treating the water like my enemy and accepted my buoyancy. I tell myself, I Am The Water.

That is ok, as long as you don't speed up breathing to reduce the CO2 levels in your blood.
