Hello Lovelies,
I am so sorry if this is the wrong part of the forum to post this too, but I wasn't quite sure where it fit in... I've read a few old posts about different Mer-names and Mersona's, but I'm struggling to find my own Heh... I ended up with the name SteampunkMermaid, simply because I love the two subjects dearly. However, it isn't really a mermaid name. I'm still very new to MerNetwork and Mermaiding, but I so do want to participate. So far I've come up with a few ideas, and I've tried to research them to the best of my abilities to make sure that I don't try to take someone else's name... But I don't feel like any of them speak out to me yet... That's what I hope maybe you all can assist me with? Hopefully other future Mers too?
Mermaid Serilda- I often go to Renaissance Faires in character, I adopt personas for them. This was the name of one of my very first Roleplay characters, and eventually the inspiration for my first Ren Faire Costume. I had a cute little red outfit, complete with sword, which I would race about in proclaiming- "My name is Serilda Silvers- The cast-out daughter of a Noble woman and Captain Cut-Throat Silvers feared King of the Pirates!" (It was a very interesting backstory, got more and more complex as the years rolled by). The name Serilda is actually German and means "Armored Battle Maiden"/ "Armored Warrior Woman".
Mermaid Maribeth- Taking part of my actual name (Beth-Though I never go by it anymore...) and combining it with Mari- which is actually the nickname of another Roleplay character (Maristella, who happens to be a Mermaid Princess, who in the Roleplay adventures, is trying to get home to the sea... Mersona would be a little different though,) There is already a Mermaid Mari (or actually a MariMermaid, but the point being, I wouldn't want to take that name, so Maribeth was sort of the problem solver there.
Mermaid- Insert just about any random Scottish Gaelic or Irish Gaelic (so in general Celtic) name in there- and poof I love it to pieces. I love old Irish and Scottish Lore and actually have a small bit of family history that leads me to want something Celtic. I have a passion for languages and it lead to me to begin studying Scottish Gaelic- so my current Ren Fair persona has a Scottish Gaelic name (my name in Scottish Gaelic actually) and my little pet (a moving mythical creature like a squirrel and a cat who peeks out from my pocket and moves his head about) is named Airgiod (which means either Silver or Money haha). However, just about every Celtic name I can come up with is near impossible to pronounce unless you look it up or speak the languages! (and it's a bit cruel to do that to people.) I absolutely love the story of the Selkies though! (Hmm Seal-Mara, is the term used for the time/space created when the tide recedes... Maybe I could play with that a bit... as Ceol na Mara is Music of the sea/ Song of the Sea..)
Anyway- suggestions, opinions, help? Haha Not just for me, but anything at all to hopefully help other Mers who might be looking for ideas? It's a tricky process for some I believe! Thank you so very much, lots of love!
