Hello , I'm Sepharina ! (Seph-are-e-nuh ;) )
I'm not the *best* at describing things , so this is probably going to be a very jumbled up message because I have extreme social anxeity and its killing me too write this :P

I wouldn't call myself a mermaid , since I have literally little too zero experience with mermaiding (can I still consider myself a mermaid without a tail? Does that matter >~< ? )anywho , my dream is too one day become the every dreamed of siren(syren?) I love the more darker aspect of the mer world , it's so fascinating.
My dream tail is by FinFolk Productions or Merbella Studios ...but i can't really choose a color (black primarily , but I'm so pale black makes me look sick 😭 ) I love Mermaid Ravens aqua colored tail( pretty sure she sold it though) , I'm a fan of black and cyan/teal/blue , but i also would love to see a tail based on the fire fish goby , my favorite fish. But for now I'm stuck with feet , haha.
If I every get this "dream tail" when I'm older and have a steady income , I want to bring smiles to kids/teens faces too show them that they can be anything , even if your dream cost over 3 grand. That they need too ignore the bullies , and know they are uniqe in their very own way.
I would love working with marine life , like Syrena from Singapore did with the manatees in one of her videos , I think maybe along the way I can teach ocean, wildlife , and environmental conservation/protection.
But i also want too swim around unsuspecting boats/people , creep them out , and casually swim away leaving a "There's NO way that was a mermaid right. there."

Well now that there is a scattered and nervicited mini paragraph there , I would love too talk with you fellow mers , and all of that sort !
So for now , bye!! :D

Welcome! Are you going to get a fabric tail or a monofin to start off with? You can even get regular swim fins and practice keeping your feet together when you swim with them instead of moving them individually. The famous Weeki Wachee mermaids perform using regular fins inside their tail instead of monofins.

If you are going for a siren look I think that black against your pale skin would look very cool! I can see it being an intriguing backstory that you are from very deep depths and that is why you are pale. But the fire fish goby does have a siren look too!

Surprising people is really fun. I made it a goal over the summer that when I visited a spring I would swim down to the scuba divers and try to surprise them. It is a cool feeling to swim down deep and swim past people who are all geared up in wetsuits and tanks and there you are without all that stuff just freely swimming! I am not sure if I surprised them or not, but on my way back up from the bottom of the spring there was a guy snorkeling on the surface. I popped up to the surface a few feet away from him and he was like, "Wow, I didn't expect to see a mermaid rise up from the bottom of the spring!" It is really fun creating an out of the ordinary moment for people. Also, it is worth it to wear a tail in public for that reason, and many other reasons. ;)

Welcome to MerNetWork Sepharina! I completely understand the social anxiety bit, it can be difficult to put yourself out there with an introduction, but you did great :)

You can totally still consider yourself a mermaid without a tail! Many of the Mers here have tails and talk about designing and buying tails, but I don't believe that it's any sort of requirement. That being said, there are so many awesome tutorials and tools here for figuring out how to find a tail that says you! I've recently just started on my official Mer Journey (I've been dreaming of being a mermaid for- like- ever! haha) and am working on designing my first tail with the information found here.

The Siren side of things is always fun to look into, isn't it? The dark, mysterious, dangerous and beautiful? If you like the idea of a black tail, then go for it! I agree with Mermaid Alea- it would be a really interesting backstory to perhaps be a deep sea mermaid. However, if you're not feeling it then go for the other colors. That's the best part about being a Mer, you get to do what makes you happy! If you want to test how the color would look, you could potentially start with a black fabric tail at some point and see if you like it. Many swim fins and mono fins come in black too, so if you wanted to just practice with something like that you could see how it looks underwater next to your complexion. You could also have a black or primarily black fin, and add bright colored accessories/make up?

The conservation efforts are a great idea! I've always wanted to swim beside a whale shark. I think it would be so amazing! (I've seen Hannah Frasure and Mermaid Erin swim with them. ) Such beautiful creatures and they just have this majestic feel to them.

I think it'd be so fun to surprise people. Pop up out of the blue give a wave and swim away haha.

Anyway, so excited to have you here! Welcome!

Mermaid Alea ,

I'm probably going to practice with a monofin first , just to make sure I enjoy mermaiding , so I don't spend a whole lot of money and then not even enjoy it ;-; I'm playing it safe haha. 😉
But you have a really good point on the color schemes , I didn't think to look at it that way! :)
It would bring out the more "deadlyish " kinda side I think.
And that must be quite the experience! I can only imagine them just being in awe and what not :3

SteampunkMermaid01 , Hi!
And thank you , too! Thought that intro was a little bit of a train wreck 😄
As for making a tail , I have been reading some of the threads , and there's probably no way I can do that , without messing something up . But nothing's ever perfect , haha. But maybe when I get some experience I'll try my hand on it! :D
And the siren side of things is just-ugh I can't even! I do agree with you about being a mer , doing what you like , because no one here is judgemental 🙌 (I hope!) I am planning on a lot of accessories , so maybe a bright contrast would look really neat!
Ive seen Hannah and Melissa swim with various sea life , and I can't help but to wonder why people destroy their habitats 😭. It makes me sick. Maybe by swimming with sharks , I/we can change people's minds about the stereotype of them being man-eaters. Magical experience I can imagine!
And yes , I can just see someone being like "what. In the world" but then I would have to control myself by not getting water up my nose from laughing hysterically.
