This is a community that I feel like I need to be a part of. It's like I've found my real calling. My mom doesn't know about it, though, and I have NO IDEA how to break it to her! What do I do?!

Yup its that easy! No need to over complicate things - for most it's just a fun unique hobby and you can leave it as that!

what do you mean by trans species? I'd say for most of us we see this as a fun identity but not on the same level as coming out as actually trans, or anything like that. Not "otherkin" for most people here I find, though there's the odd otherkin merfolk person on other forums. I am just curious if you picked that as a fun buzzphrase or if you do identify as otherkin??
