Hey there, my name is Jodi :)
I'm 16 years old and from southern New Mexico. I've always loved fantasy and last year when I saw a mermaid show at the Arizona Renaissance Festival I was dying to get myself a tail.
I just ordered my first tail a few days ago. It's just a cheapie fabric tail I found on eBay for about 40$. It's probably not the best but I figured it'd be a good place to start with my current finances.
I'm really exited to learn to swim in a monofin, im sure it'll be a good workout :p
I'm also exited to get to know everyone in the community here :)

Hello and welcome :)

Fabric is actually a good way to start out and test the waters of mermaiding at a better economical start. There's a whole thread on why and whatnot.

Hope your mermaiding goes swimmingly!

Thank you! :)
Yeah I've heard that fabric is the best place to start, my only concern is that the tail will be pretty low quality as it's shipping directly from china ... I figured it was still worth a shot but I'll probably be saving up for a better quality fabric tail from either the mertailor or magictail

Ebay seems to have good protections on returning items if you dislike it or something. I've ordered from them a few times.

You could always just get the monofin itself, then get the tail fabric for future purchases.

When is it arriving?

Oh goodness, I can't believe I'm replying so late! So sorry everyone!

@Mer Coralia it arrived a few weeks ago. The fabric doesn't really fit around the monofin and the Velcro that secures the bottom doesn't really stay together. The monofin is pretty cheesy, it's basically a big clear plastic piece covered with a thin fabric that has two little sock holes in it. I've only used it a few times and the elastic has already stretched so that your feet begin to slip out as you swim. Also it's prone to getting twisted around so that the fin is turned to the left or right instead of straight out. I can't say I regret the purchase though, $40 isn't much of a loss.

@MermaidLyara Thank you! It's mostly blue with red points, very pretty color scheme but unfortunately the quality is pretty bad, I'm planning to upgrade to a nicer fabric tail soon.

@mermaid mazu Thank you :)

(it seems like I can't put any spaces between my paragraphs! I put them in but they disappear when I send the reply off, sorry about that!!!)
