(the way most of us swim in a mermaid tail is called dolphin kick, right?)
So yesterday I was training with my tail and I did a dolphin kick and decided to notch it up with a front crawl. I went pretty fast. Have any of you tried this? Is it recommendable?
What is the fastest way to swim in a tail?

If I absolutely have to use my arms, I combine dolphin kick with breaststroke arm pull. It gives you a perfect burst of speed, and can be worked into your form very fluidly and easily underwater.

Conversely, if you want to get better at your arm pull for butterfly, you can do breaststroke kick with butterfly arm pull while breathing to the side, while you work up the strength and technique to breathe forward.

I do sometimes swim with my arms out in front of me (for a better streamline and a faster swim), but it's not always the most photogenic way of swimming. Both ways can effectively work in the breast stroke arm pull.
Since all of my mermaid swimming is done underwater, I'll only use breast stroke pull underwater, and butterfly pull to surface/breathe. It looks awesome when everything is put together!
