So, I've made this thread for us to talk about and/or show off our mer armor!

Does anyone have armor? Do you want armor? What colors? What design?

I've been thinking of creating armor out of silicone, and just wearing it over the silicone tail I plan when I'd like to be looking a bit more like an undersea warrior. I have yet to design it. I'm just forming my ideas. I'll be sure to post the art when I finish, and I'll be excited to see any of yours!

I looooveeeee the thought of mermaids/mermen with armor! The imagery has always been some of my favorite as I have always seen mermaids as tribal and warrior-like. Organic armor makes some amazing pieces, though not too many for a very busty mer like myself.

Their stuff is water safe as well. I believe several mers have pieces from them and I think they'll be at NCMermaina.

I've also been looking into some Thermoplastic armor, which should be fine in water as long as I clean it after just like I would with my tail. I think that would be a great option for you, Nerenia, because you could gently mould it over your perfect bra.

I love this idea. Hope any of you posts pics if you decide to create/buy mermaid armor.

Btw, I googled and found this awesome inspirational pic: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/1a/7d/d5/1a7dd5f7ea6999ef195f9f87155d5620.jpg

Thermoplastic and Worbla both are awesome, I have made a really cool shoulder armor piece for a photoshoot out of Worbla.

I have a filigree circlet from Organic Armor that I'll be wearing to MerMania, and I can't wait to meet them! I hope they may have some books or some materials on sale on how they make their items so believable and waterproof!

I was on the organic armor site recently and you can take an online class from them on how to make armor. They had photos of people's creations who took the class. It was quite impressive! The class cost $200 I think.

My tail will cover my chest, so I'm trying to brainstorm armor designs that would actually look good on a tail like that. I'm thinking copper colored armor for me, or statue of liberty colored armor because I'm a lionfish mer.

That class sounds awesome! I'll definitely look at the pictures. I am looking for armor that I can swim fine in, though.

@Nerenia: omg, coincidentally, I also thought of Worbla when I first read this topic. But I have never worked with it personally, so I have no idea how it does under water.

@Marlin: I know right?!

I think I'm going to end up using Worbla. From the Worbla website:

Can I take Worbla into the pool? Lake? Sea?
Well, that depends on several factors. Worbla itself is fine in water, though it’s suggested you rinse your pieces off afterwords to remove salt/chlorine. If your Worbla is wrapped around foam with open areas (such as the folding method) then you may have more issues with the foam reacting to the chlorine/salt water, and remember that your paint will be what is the most affected by the water. Make sure your paint is waterproof and well sealed.

My giant isopod pauldron and spider crab belt, part of a benthic scavenger theme I am slowing growing, coordinated with my ichthyocentaur head circlet. All by Organic Armor!
