I'd say the difference is that professional mermaids earn money by mermaiding. On average, professional mermaids tend to spend more money on their tail, accessories, make up and hair. And many have had freedive lessons.

I'm a non professional who spends a lot of allowance on mermaid stuff I swim like a fish and I still have fun so would it be considered the mermaiding camps and schools and jobs? ^-^

I think the only difference is that 1 makes money being a mermaid and the other doesn't. Professionals might be more inclined to spend more on tails and accessories simply because they need a larger collection for their business but I think in terms of cost per mermaid there are some individuals who are likely to spend just as much, if not more than a business per mermaid.

Eg those who own multiple tails for one person, those who have a rather expansive collection of accessories.

Perhaps overall a company may spend more because their number of mermaids is higher but if you compared their overall cost divided amongst the number of mermaids they have working for them to an individuals private collection I think the numbers could be fairly similar. Then again if it's an individual mer personally running their business...

Well inatructing mermaid camps and schools are jobs certainly but I'd say just because you have a mermaid school doesn't make you a professional mermaid. Doing the entire thing in a tail probably would. Like I said in my previous post my definition of a 'professional mermaid' is simply one who is paid to be a mermaid so it depends on the context I suppose.

I don't go to mermaid schools or camps but I do swim like a fish and I'm not old enough to work yet. XD
