Hello!

I am currently looking for a good monofin for a beginer. Any information would be most helpful. :)

The Rapid by Finis or the Wave by Finis are both wonderful beginner options. I personally have the Rapid and it is fantastic.

I have a wave that i got cut to look like a mermaid tail, I love it! The coolest thing ever :) If you are not looking to go "top speed" you could try and oceanika merfin

I have the finis tempo, which they don't make any more, but the wave is really similar. Its pretty affordable at $50, its durable, you can cut it into good shapes, and its good for beginners. Finis also has a 20% discount if you enter the coupon code "mermaid20" when ordering, I think. The website says they're out of the wave and the rapid though. I don't know when they will get them back.

Here is a fairly complete list of all the monofin companies I know of:

Finis

Also, you could always make a monofin. There are guides on how to do it, both with polycarbonate plastic, or out of fiberglass.

I suggest the Finis Wave/Rapid as well (the difference is really only the price and the shoe size). I have the Wave and it was pretty easy to use, right off the bat, although i do have considerable swimming experience and I'd been practicing the motion long before I got the monofin...

I tried to order a Rapid recently, but my order was canceled because they ran out of stock. :( I hope they get them back in soon, Summer swimming is nearly here! There is a site on Amazon that promises them within 3-5 weeks--but I'm guessing if they can't get them in in time they'll just cancel your order to comply with Amazon's seller agreement, and I'd be right back to where I started again, 30 days later. :p

Are the "flukes" on the Wave and Rapid the same size? I have a narrow 7 1/2 shoe size so I might fit a Wave from what I've read--but I want the paddle part to be as large as I can get with an affordable Finis fin.

Hope you have better luck than I've been having with ordering your first fin Zarina. ^_^

No the flukes are not the same size. The Wave is about 4 inches smaller if you line up the foot pockets. My daughter wares a size 6 in shoes and she can ware my Rapid if we tighten the straps down. So I would go for the Rapid if you can find one. It should fit you just fine.

Thanks! I literally just ordered a Rapid on Amazon a moment ago, I was so surprised that they had a few back in stock! They must have just put them on there because I've been checking sites everyday since my last order was canceled. Apparently FINIS sells through Amazon now too, so it's actually coming from the company and not a 3rd party distributor. I lucked out, the description said only 4 left in stock when I placed my order. If any Mers have been waiting for a rapid, snap one up quick on Amazon! http://www.amazon.com/FINIS-1-35-003-Rapid-Monofin/dp/B001GQ2BMC

I clicked the link, and it says that the Rapid is made by FINIS, but Swimming Supply is the company listed as the seller and shipper.
