I've been in the mernetwork for about 7t a week but I haven't introduced myself yet. I never gave my mermaid name much thought so I guess I'll go by Britney for now. I've been interested in mermaids for about as long as I can remember. There was once a time when the water scared me but now I live for it (I'm a certified lifeguard and swim instructor for red cross). I am sadly a mermaid without a tail but I'm working on fixing that. I also don't have a pod but I don't think there's one for Ontario is there? Anyways, I just wanted to properly introduce myself and say how nice it is to be with a group that understands me.

Welcome! It's always awesome to have more lifeguards on the thread 😁🌊
I'm also a Canadian merfolk and we have a pod for the entire country on Facebook where there are a number of Ontario mers. Happy to meet you!

Should Ontario mers finally get together next summer? Even if it's just to grab a coffee somewhere and talk, rather than getting fancy with a tail & water meet?

Welcome to the group. Congrats on getting pass your fear of the water. If it alright to ask, how did you get passed your fear of the water. I'm still trying to overcome my fear of going underwater without a pair of google. I want to be able to join my niece when she starts mermaiding so it's one fear I got to overcome soon even though I been trying for awhile.

Thank you! And I had swimming lessons when I was around 9 years old. My instructor really pushed beyond my limits but in such a way that I could take that leap of faith and get in the water. Actually I cried the first day and he threatened to throw me in (of course he didn't). He kept me preoccupied and eventually it became second nature. With respects to the no goggles thing, can I ask exactly what it is you're scared of?

My family always had a swimming pool growing up and I had one of those older brother that liked to pick on the younger brother. His idea of teasing me and picking on me was to throw me in the pool. I didn't know to swim so I grew to hate the water and I didn't think to stop not trying to breathe during the moments of his playing around. I learn how to swim when I was in my late teens and used the google as a comfort tool. I think if I could get pass the discomfort of water in the nose, I'll be fine. I got a bad habit of not leaving my comfort zone if that make sense. My 16 year old niece want to go mermaiding this year so I got to overcome this. Thank you for asking. Sorry for the paragraph.

Maybe once warmer weather arrives we can put up a thread in the Union of the Pods of the North group & get something to happen?
Also @brinneyy, if you join the Pods of the North pod in the Pods forum area, you'll be able to keep up with what's happening in Canada.
