Hello fellow merpeople! I am very young, but please take me seriously as I am as serious about mermaiding as any other casual mermaid. Also, please don't tell me to leave unless you are a mod, in which case I will oblige :)

My name is mermaid amber, I am twelve years old and from the pod of Oceania. I found out about mermaiding four years ago and was amazed by these people who could swim through the water so gracefully in a tail. I got my first fabric fail for Christmas this year and mermaid amber was born :)

I enjoy swimming in clear lakes and pools, but I live next to the beach so that is generally where you will find me.

I have severe anxiety, OCD and a generally messed up family, so mermaiding is a great way to escape From that.

You all seem like such amazing people and I can't wait to meet you all!

Welcome to the group Mermaid Amber. I haven't started mermaiding however I am working on saving up so my 16 year old niece can start mermaiding. She already said I'll be the awesome uncle if I get her a tail. It's good that you found a way to find a hobby to escape from the stress in life. If the anxiety does get bad and you need someone to vent to, you can always message me as I do get anxiety all the time due to a hyperthyroid (the thing that keeps me skinny). Family can be crazy sometimes but we all love our family. If I do eventually get a tail of my own, I'll probably be merman Slim. Long post are fine. As you can tell, I do the same thing. Remember to live your dreams.

Hi Amber! I'm on the younger side of the mer community too - only 17. I have two younger sisters, one 11 and one 14, and the 11-year-old shares my interest in mermaiding, though she doesn't have a tail yet. I wouldn't worry about being rejected by your fellow mers because of your age; any adult who's willing to put on a tail and swim in public surely understands that age is but a number.
I have an anxiety disorder too. Thought I'd let you know that 1) you're not alone and 2) it gets better.
Happy swimming and I hope to get to know you better!

Hello Amber! Welcome to the Mercommunity! I wouldn't worry about your age! Most merfolk on here are really friendly and have had the dream of being a mermaid from a very young age as well. They probably wish they had started following that dream earlier in life, like you have. I'm 19 and I know I do! I wish you lot of support with your crazy family. And if I'm not mistaken , I think there is a forum for merfolk with anxiety disorders. That may be a place you could check out. :)
