This guy sounds like a hack. Upside down bubbles? Really? Wow. He sounds like one of those people who buy a fancy camera and suddenly feel entitled to call themselves a professional photographer/videographer. I guess if you really liked that particular footage you could try to pay for just the raw footage. But I'd just hire someone else. And make sure that there is a contract involved. Good luck :)

Agreed... write this guys off. If he can't listen then you will not get what you want anyway. Find someone else that is will to help you out and go with them. It isn't worth the headache. Good luck with your reel!

I'd ask him to remove the video and say that you don't give your permission for him to use it. Honestly, I get all my pictures/videos taken by my boyfriend or by friends. I'm lucky to know a couple of pro photographers so I know what they're capable of. I guess the lesson is to look at previous work before hiring but with your situation it doesn't really seem like an option.
I hope it works out and you get an awesome demo reel!

You have legal rights to have the video removed and have him not use it. I am wondering if you signed a release form at all? If not, lawyer up on his ass (the threat of one would be fine enough I bet) I would also bring this issue to event organizers and I have a feeling if you say you feel you may need a lawyer they'll be quick to pressure him into stopping.

You have the right to review and approve anything in your image or of your image unless you have signed that right away with a witness signing as well.

AniaR, This is true that we as models have the right to our image, but here in Florida (not sure about other places) The photographer has rights to anything he shoots, as long as he or she is not selling it, they can use it for what ever they want. I had an issue with a photographer not sending me my pictures after a shoot... never received them to this day. But I couldn't do a damn thing, because he snapped the photo and had rights to them... I was so pissed! But we all learn from our mistakes.

well THATS stupid. Come to Canada where you have better rights! and ah.. bring a parka? lol

Tht bites, a lot. I hope you can do something. I would Definately go for the video footage first, then try to get it off YouTube.

Who is the photographer so we know who to avoid?

that is absolutely unprofessional! this is YOUR demo.allowing him to do this does not give him the right to post it how he wants. its his JOB to suit your needs. if you paid for it, you get what you want or walk. is he actually someone you can hire? next time, i would check for a professional.talk to the event coordinator. he is no professional. im sorry this happened. that flips me off!

did he actually put it up on youtube?

SireniaSolaris

Yes, he put it on youtube.

And I didn't realize that, Star. About FL. :( That's gonna make it a lot harder for me to get him to take it down. He took off the word "demo reel" but it's still basically the same - advertising my bookings and website. He is supposedly a professional who was hired by the CEO of this nation wide entertainment company to cover their event but I agree with Spindrift's words exactly - this video not only gives a horrible depiction of my image, but it makes him look like a goonie who doesn't have any clue as to what he is doing.

I've already had 3 people contact me - 2 were people who already know me. The girl said she was wondering when I was going to start taking my top off, and the guy said it reminded him of a bad porn where nothing happens.

Then the other, I had someone contact me via my website seeing if they could book me topless and when I inquired as to where they might have gotten such an idea, they said they had seen my video on youtube and was directed to my site for booking. It's not my video!

I'm distraught now, because this is going to completely ruin my whole image! Between my Etsy store, and my Mermaid classes, my name is getting more recognized, and this is the ONLY video on youtube of me at all! So this is the only thing people will see! He said he'd have the other video up in a week - of course, the last time he said a week, look what happened.

Star, I know you said in our state, photographers/videographers have the rights to what they shoot, but if something can be seen as slanderous to one's image, can't something be done? Because that's hurting my reputation.

forgive me but i watched the video, and i completely agree that he needs to take it off. it does make it look like a bad porno. the 'cave' effect was stupid, what was up with the music?!, he kept focussing on your boobs, the shiny effect on the tail looked good for the half a second he showed it, the smiling (although you do have a pretty smile) took up too much time. all in all, that guys an idiot. im sorry that video exsists. and he still has the
Sirena solaris
demo video
at the end with your website or something and email.

Regardless of who technically owns the content, can you threaten to sue him for defamation of character? You can use the sketchy job offers as proof that his butchered video is doing damage to your business. Maybe once he grasps that mermaiding is a job, he'll be a little more professional.

Wow it really is like bad porn music, at least the footage is really crisp so it's not fuzzy looking on top of it all. Threaten legal, heck go legal even if he might have higher chances of winning then you the reality might make him just do what he's suppose to and or you win and he is forced.

i was curious, so i looked up the video, and although you looked lovely, you are correct, the way it was put together was just ridiculous.
im sorry that he butchered what was probably otherwise a beautiful experience, and i hope you can get it fixed.

SireniaSolaris, as a male i have to agree with everything. You are a really beautiful mermaid, but this video is inappropriate and insulting.
I flagged it as insulting, let's see what happens. Maybe the others could do the same?

omg I just saw the video by accident it popped up in my stream. You look beautiful but wow, the music is totally inappropriate, def porn esq. Any who so many clips of you playing with your hair?! I dont get the repeated shot showing you smile, or the blurryness around the edges of every frame. It comes off VERY stalkerish, like, do you think that might be part of this? Does he have an obsession with you or mermaids? lol

Anyway, I think as professionals we see this stuff more than others. YOU look lovely. I noticed he turned comments off. He also disabled ratings. The camera work underwater is waaaaaay too shakey.

Hello dear! I just watched the video on his channel, too...is it the one uploaded on March 3 of this year? I see other postings here before that date, so I'm wondering if this video of you is the most recent one or the "bad porn" one, Sirenia...

Firstly, you look great! The music was a synthy-type instrumental that reminded me of...well, I'm not sure...but porn doesn't really come to mind when I heard it...it was called Meadowlands or something?...Maybe I just don't watch enough porn (GUFFAAW) but it was kinda cheap sounding...not really flowing or soothing like I'd expect to feel when I see mers swimming around and such!

But the first part of the vid was like, a SOLID two minutes of you just looking at the camera and playing with your hair (which was ADORABLE), but not really what we want to see...we want to see you SWIMMING! ;D So yes, this guy is totally FAIL when it comes to putting together a mermaid vid...if anything, there should only be like, ONE dry shot, at the SUPER DUPER BEGINNING of the vid, and it should only be for a few seconds, then right into swimming...

Other than that, I wouldn't worry too much about it ruining your image. I watched it and I thought you looked lovely! I certainly wouldn't think you were about to take off your top...you look amazing! Not that I'm trying to praise his work or anything...but I personally don't think you should worry about this guy's level of fail ruining your mer-career!

LOVE LOVE LOVE!

Well that one is the edited one. Maybe he saw this thread or something, idk, but he recently messaged me saying he didn't realize how upset I was about it so he set it so that you could only view that video if you have the link. He put up the edited one. It's not like the other one - I picked the music for that, and that alone makes a huge difference. I still want to collect my own footage and put together my own thing. Just hard cuz I have no one to take pics/video. Eventually... it will happen eventually...
