Hi everyone!:) I have made fabric tails before and a freind just gave me some fabric for a tail. I am adding hip fins, dorsal fins and such, but I was wondering if I could use some hot glue on the side fins to spice them up a bit ;) . The fabric is a bit rubbery. Will it come off while swimming? Any thoughts? Its gonna be orange :D

I wish I could help, but I hope someone can if I can't!
What kind of material is the tail? :)
Hot glue is PROBABLY not a good idea, but I would test it out on a small swatch maybe?

Thanks! :) The fabric is a spandex with an odd scaley/rubbery texture. :)
Hm...rubbery, well I'd be careful..hot glue isn't flexible for long it does Crack, I don't know if risking silicone would be a good idea since you said there's a rubber layer, maybe if you sewed on vynil sheeting? I'm assuming you're trying to add veins to the fins yes?

Yup! I like the veins... but I could just use something else...:)
Cool, well just experiment with materials! That's what I did with my tail and it has worked out so far :) test everything!! That's a Pearlie Mae rule [emoji14]

How about using aquarium caulking?

I wouldn't, I think caulking has harmful toxins. some tail makers use it and it's not healthy.

100% silicone caulking is fine, just not ALEX plus caulking. Especially in small quantities it would be totally fine!

oh ok but better safe than sorry, I wouldn't use ALEX plus in any amount but it's up to the tail maker <3
I mean I thought it would be a good thing to use but she mentioned the fabric has a rubber coating or something so I'm just wondering if the silicone will stick to it

Oh I wouldn't use ALEX plus either, but I didn't see the rubbery thing. You would have to test it!

The silicone caulk will stick to rubber depending on what kind it is.

Aquarium silicone is completely safe once cured
