I recently got my top braces off and am getting my bottoms off soon! I am so excited and I just wanted to share this. I can go scuba diving again! There is (almost) nothing more painful than scuba diving with braces. Except maybe wisdom tooth surgery. But I got my braces off!!!
Warning for those who may be gettin braces, they will hurt sometimes but it isn't anything you can't and won't survive. Also, your retainer will NOT be instant relief from your braces. Your retainer hurts for a few days just like getting your braces tightened. And I am rubbing my tounge raw. But it is worth it! My teeth are so straight and nice! They look weird after almost three years off braces and without them my teeth look so big.

Good luck! Don't worry when they bring out drill looking objects, besides a funny noise, you don't even know what they are doing.
P.s. they are just filing your teeth to be even but no pain!

Lucky. My teeth are healthy but I need braces. My saving grace is that my front teeth are prominent and mostly straight so in photos you usually cant tell quite how crooked my teeth are. I've trained myself to talk so you cant see them except for the top two. I hate my teeth so much I am 26 and still no braces because of $$$. :(

Well, having my parents pay for them is a blessing I suppose, just not one that I really realize I should be happy for. I mean, I know there expensive, but I don't know HOW expensive they are. But I'm sure once I get the rest of them off and the pain goes away ill appreciate it.

If I ever have to get braces I'm sticking with the clear ones! I do not want metal in my mouth XD Good luck getting them off!!

Truthfully, the clear ones can hurt worse than the metal ones. And the metal isnt really too big a deal, as long as you don't enjoy eating magnets. If you put magnets or tin foil too close, you can't taste anything but metal for the next week at least

Don't give up hope. I didn't start my braces until I was 27, and I managed it through a payment plan (also I used Aetna Dental Access, a discount club that my regular dentist takes, which saved $$$$ on the extractions and things.) It's worth the wait- my teeth were super screwed up. I know what you mean about learning to talk so teeth don't show- I've had to learn how to smile with my teeth showing, now that they're mostly straight.
It's a ton of money, but if you're doing it on your own, a payment plan makes it so much easier!

I loved having my braces! I was proud to show them off - I was that kid who knew that this was part of my life, one more step and I should smile and show them off! I know some kids remove them for graduation. I put on white bands and smiled as wide as I could! I love seeing them when I look back on my photos. Reminds me of a good time in my life :)

I actually need braces, my canines are very crooked and not very pretty to look at.
Because of how my teeth look i don't like to "smile" (that being showing teeth while i smile )
I haven't got any braces yet do to the $$$
When I do get braces i'll be worried and nervous yet at the same time i'll be excited because once i'm done with the braces i'll be able to "smile" without worrying how un-pretty my teeth look.

My top teeth are pretty straight, but my bottom teeth.... they are kinda scary. Way overcrowded. I had wanted braces for a long time to get them fixed. But I'm 23 now, and at this age, I kind don't think I should bother.... I'm kind of beyond braces age, I think :-\

Aww, Sirenia! What if you just got it on your bottom teeth? Also, I might be remembering wrong but I think I've seen clear brackets before, which won't hide completely what with the wire and all, but it would be less visible.
I feel like if it bothers you, you shouldn't let age get in the way. If anything, I feel like you'd do a better job taking care of your braces than many people I've known who got them as kids...

awesome ^.^
I remember getting my braces off and squishing my face into every pillow I could... so smooth, no jabbing metal from pressing my face against something.. and smiling is easier too!

My advice to anyone who is up in the air, is that if you can, get the braces!! My dad was a dentist who did a bit of orthodontic work as well. I was a completely obstinate teenager and refused to get them, while my brother and sister both did. To this day I regret it, and now I am too far away to have my dad do my work, and not enough money to get them. I even apologized to my dad and told him that he was right (boy did he like that! haha). Most of my teeth are pretty straight but my bottoms are crowded in the front and I have a slight overbite :( Even though braces may suck for a while, well worth it for not only appearances but for your oral and overall health (since oral health effects overall health so much).

Yes, if you can get braces, do so. I did not when I was younger and now I have the most mangled messed up teeth.

Congrats on getting your braces off Gem!
I wish I had taken better care of my teeth after I had gotten my braces off when I was in high school. I was scared to wear my retainers because it felt like my teeth were loose to the point where they were going to fall out after I had worn them through the night (if I managed to keep them on). So I didn't wear my retainers and my bottom teeth are crowded again. >_< I might eventually get lower braces again, I think they have new options to straighten certain teeth, so I might not need the whole device. *Hopes*

I need them. I have crooked teeth and an overbite. I'm dreading having them on but I'm sure it'll be great when they're off; my mom had them and says they're worth it. I'm looking at 1.5 to 2 years of them. I'll be 19 in June so I'm looking at having them until about 20 1/2 or 21 if I get them on soon...I think I should just go for it. My parents are paying for them. I'm scared to have my wisdome teeth removed though. :P

Yay! I rember my braces, not fun! When I got them off my mom aksed me what I wanted to eat, and all I wanted was a pear! I hated trying to eat apples and pears and plums and nectarines and all that fun junk with braces. Now, my teeth are straight and I still get complements on them; even though it has been almost three years since I got them off.
