I thought I should introduce myself. Before posting again. Thank you to the admin. for vetting me so to everyone I'm not spam haha I'm real! So I've loved mermaids since the little mermaid hit theaters and my God dad gave me the infamous The Little Mermaid dad. Oh I wish I still had that! Why I had to carry it with me everywhere on a family road trip and lost it and the hand held arcade game were she could only swim up and down over obstacles
And know we have teamed up to make my passion for Merlife and cinema a reality with MERMAIDS BEYOND BOARDERS the movie!!!
MERMAIDS BEYOND BOARDERS is a feature film: Based after 800 years of mass Mermaid suicides. Sea Parliament has usurped the Sea Witches power by approval of using science. Declaring any Mer and any human with the Mer gene can become a hybrid and secure bloodlines from extinction. But not without some complications from full bloods who must learn to live with hybrids in a boarding school as they all integrate into human, sea societies and of course cliques.

If you want to get Raina's attention, you will need to message her, as she is not an admin or a moderator on this form and therefore will not see the report as only admins and moderators see those reports. As far as report, while you may not agree with the OP, they have not broken any form rules.


MermaidsBeyondBoarders, what Slim says about the community being offended and upset by people using photos without permission or credit is correct. You should consider that now that you're coming into this community and want to enlist the help of others for your project. If you want to be taken seriously here, I would suggest you go back and credit all of the photos you have posted on your social media pages (Google reverse image search makes it easier), and remove all photos that you can't find the proper credits for. That is of course your choice, but people who use other mermaids photos without credit or permission tend to be detested by the community. Just being honest!

Hello, Thank you for making me aware of who the stunning Mermaid Raina is. My FB page started out as a pretend sorority from gamers long ago who got together from loving mermaids pictures were given and shared constantly looks like wonderful Raina was a fav. The game closed down but the page lived on through me and now the film. We would love to have Raina! If your here Raina hi would love to feature you in the film! Yes it is real sorry for the IMDB link like I said you can type the name in search or follow the instagram page link I know works in the bio there. Raina if you wish to be deleted let me know like I said pictures posted out of admireation. No way for me to know where sister's got them gaming with permission long ago. yeah, I'm Raina. I would appreciate you not using my photos to advertise your film, my image is my brand for my business and it becomes confusing for people when they see it on something I'm not a part of. In addition, it puts me in the middle of issues with photographers who didn't give permission.

I would really strongly caution against using people's images without their permission. Mermaid work is really tough competition and we all work hard on our "image" as a brand. Having our images lifted and reposted have caused many of us issues and it's not a great way to introduce yourself to the community. It puts people off and makes them feel defensive.

Consider using legally obtained mermaid stock photos. There's loads of free ones out there. Or even contacting some mermaids to obtain their permission for using their images, with credit. For me, I wouldn't feel comfortable filming with people who don't understand the basic issue of taking photos that aren't yours. It would make me concerned about other possible rights issues.

I'm going to be Papa mer here. I'm going to expose you for the rat you are. Make excuse, fine. Take down people pictures good. Are you going to tell people during your "gaming' time that the photos you posted you actually MADE the time to REMOVE THE WATERMARK off the image. I had a look at your fb page, it looks more like a fan page. If you truly want to keep it professional, ONLY have links, photos and videos of your project.

By having a bunch of other mermaid related stuff, it becomes less of a business page and more of a, "I love mermaids. Here's everything I found." type of fb page.

If you're planning on having sponsors for your project, them coming to a page full of mermaid spam isn't what they want to see. They want to know how the project is doing, where its at in terms of production, and what their money is being used for, eg prop making/buying, makeup, locations. If its private property, locations have to be rented and paid for etc.

This is gonna be mean but: you might want to change the name of the project because YOU know it's a play on a boarding school but everyone else sees it as a glaring misspelling. When creating a project that you will have to market at people you need to take that into account.

It's sad meeting my before nameless Mer Idols too finding out who they are and they dislike me for a Fan Page because this thread has piled on pointing fingers of accusations.
Please everyone before you pile on me about a fan page ran 4yrs ago by literally 40+ gamers uploading. I decided a metamorphism into a new art form was giving as a gift by God to create. I will not let negative influence deter me because the devil is a lie. In Jesus name I cast out all the hurt, pointing of fingers of accusations sent by evil out my life. Think of what you must of me but I know Gods calling for me is for me and I'm so thankful of the gifts he has giving me.

I'm done commenting on this. I will be behind the scene letting every original image owner know your facebook page is trying to collect donation and their image is on there. If you are already familiar with the links above, you would know that using someone's images without permission, never mind altering them to remove watermarks, is indeed frowned upon if not outright illegal. Also, while I appreciate wordplay more than most, the title of your project does raise an eyebrow. It would be no different than filming a mermaid in a boat slip and calling it "Mermaid: Live Berth". I'm sure I'm not judging you. I just do not appreciate you bringing God into this when He had nothing to do with it. You only did it when you felt you were "attacked" or however you're feeling right now. Yes, God is your shepherd, but saying to others that isn't a shield against what people have to say to you or about you. More often than not, in the real world, people will treat you worse or dislike you because you are treating them like their advise does not matter just because they aren't like you. Most of the mers on this thread are simply offering advice on how better to be received. Whether you take it is up to you.

I'm also not saying that you should not call on Christ. I myself am a Christian. But doing it so publicly, and calling those on this thread out for things you believe they did wrong, or the 'evils' you think they committed against you, and then saying you forgive them is not really something you needed to do physically. If they don't believe they did anything wrong, saying you forgive them can be aggravating and insulting. I do believe that we could be a bit nicer, but we already are, at least most of us, trying to be polite about what we think and with what we say.

In no way am I saying you should not pursue this movie. It sounds amazing! I would love to see it! I agree with the advise other mers on this thread have said. That's all. I think they've given really good advise, and if you take it, then your movie would be an even bigger success than I know it's already going to be, because the concept is amazing.

I will forever keep a screenshot of you calling the mermaid community rude. That way if some truth comes from your movie, I'll expose you as someone who insults their audience. Tyler Perry never having such problem because he played by the rules and he was fair. I will still love to know you found this forum. We all got nice things to say, sorry it's not toward you. A god willing person like yourself would be happy you got us all working together as a team but you don't look at the good and the bad that way. As mermaids, nearly all of us have been approached by people making films, people who want to use us for promotions, people who want our talents for their labors of love- but don't want to pay us, sometimes blatantly lying about the nature of their project or potential compensation.

Many of us have had images stolen (and even if you are not aware of how the law works with regards to photography and intellectual property, reposting images without credit, removing watermarks, etc. is stealing) and used for people's "pet projects". Many of us use photos as our main advertising for our mermaid businesses- meaning when photos are reposted without credit, we might be losing clients, and losing money. Mermaiding is, first and foremost, a job for many of us.

With this history of exploitation in mind, can you see why we are highly critical of people who put out casting calls?

Most importantly, I think, this is a subforum for introducing yourself. Your first post is less of a "Hi, I'm new" and more of a promotion and casting call, which doesn't belong here. It didn't make the best first impression, and it doesn't read as you trying to get to know us or as a search for people with similar interests. It's not the worst thing you could do, but it puts up some red flags for those of us who have been around a while.

I'm sure everyone would be amenable to a fresh start, if you're willing to take a step back too. Just know that we as a community have to be very skeptical of anyone asking for mermaids. Is this a paid gig or do you want volunteer work? And more importantly, how do we know you AREN'T trying to scam people? We just met you! I wasn't mean at all, I simply explained everything, and even when everyone tagged me on your photos I was nice about it. As a professional I have to protect myself, I am also currently involved in several filming projects as well so protecting my content is important so it doesn't confuse people :)

I think maybe the mistake was re-purposing an old fan page. Perhaps making a fresh new one. And like I suggested before, there's plenty of free mermaid stock art you can get your fins on, and some merfolk wont mind you sharing their stuff if you ask permission and credit them :)

Thank you so much Mermaid Wesley. I appreciate your kindness towards me. I have been trying when time allows to clean up the Facebook page. I tried explaining that's what it was when the gaming community for it started. Like how memes work and get passed along people would upload pics of fav. Mers there. When I introduced myself I was the excited and wide eyed to be here. Just was trying to get it all out. And if friends were to engage me I'd tell them more about me. Like how this project is helping me in a way of therapy as my father is in hospice. It's been rough and I just wanted to combine something that I associated with happiness in a new way of Art in my life and maybe of new friends I'd find along. The way. Since the first response I got about the page I've been taking down pics trying to re-start on the right foot here Trying to track down original pages but some in the community have beat me to the owners. Painted me with malicious intent. Which I'm sorry for like I said many of us were fans. If I seem overly protective religiously it's spilling over from my father's situation. He's told me to keep living my life using my talents and don't let anyone negative take what God has planned for me. I do hope people change toward me here and stop trying to take me down when I'm working on what they say. I can't help it if it's felt rude here. Just imagine it being your fist day of fish school your wearing Mona Lisa on your shirt and people pointing an yelling at you for being fake cause you admire it. Or Mr. Anderson the creator of the true little mermaid story for calling us out for liking Ariel because she's been ripped off of him. I'm just saying the trolling and being piles on is enough. And no I had no idea about people exploiting here. Yes the casting is paid and very professional and will be made. But Mermaid lovers are not just in this community so I'll move on from casting here. I would love to stay around but that's only if people will be nice and not rude. I've not been rude to anyone just put on defense a bit for being misunderstood for being apart of a fan page of 40plus. I love Mermaids and always will follow my dreams. what about starting over with a completely new FB page dedicated specifically for your movie? I can understand a page starting out as something then morphing into something else, however, all the photos of not relating to the movie should be removed. It isnt hard to do and should not take long. It is confusing to the public. Good luc

IMDB credits will be given to actors and crew.
Depending on the ratio of SAG actors and crew and Non Union actors and crew. We'll decide to exercise the option of SAG before our shot date of converting from non Union to SAG.
As we are going by the SAG wages and rules already to prepare for this. As penalties apply for hiring too many non Union actors and crew or too many SAG actors and crew. So we'll know by shoot date. Thank you that was a good question. *Splash*
