I saw a interview with Mermaid Linden where she said she had a separate non-silicone tail for land performances. Does anyone else have a separate tail like that? How would I get one of those? As much as I love my silicone, it would be nice to have something a little lighter and less fragile for land appearances. Thanks!

Linden works specifically with a very high end specialized spfx guy from the film industry. Her tails are one of a kind and no one out there commercially makes foam tails. She had hers specially done by him for her dry gigs

Most of the time people just use an extra silicone tail for land events - perhaps an old silicone tail that is retired from swimming or one that just doesn't swim well to begin with. A realistic looking neoprene or fabric tail can work too.
You could try and find a Special Effects person to make a foam tail - but the cost would probably be as much or more than a silicone tail. You might be able to scour some Special Effects websites and get ideas and perhaps make your own land tail. I wonder if someone who makes furry costumes would be able to make a mermaid tail? I think they work with foam a lot...

I have a fabric tail and instead of using of my mono fin I cut out a piece of foam core from the $.99 store (or your local art store) and insert it when I pose with my tail on dry land.
