View Full Version : Modifying a Tail Skin Fluke to Fit a Mahina Merfin

Hi mermaids! :D Back again with another little bit of an experiment here that I've been curious to try for the longest time.

So a while ago, I got in contact with one of my favorite mermaids in the community Mermaid Mandi and she gave me some rather vague advice on how to modify a pre-existing tail skin from one of the big mermaid retailers to fit a giant Mahina Merfin. I've seen it done before with a MagicTail but I wanted to see if I could achieve the same effect with my temporary fabric tail skin so I can start the embellishments on it.

After Modification (Mermaid Mandi's MagicTail)

For this particular experiment, I'm going to be using the Aurora Borealis skin from SunTail Mermaid as my base for my fabric tail. Since it's going to be just a casual tail for my pod's meet-ups, I figured it'd be worth testing as an experiment.

I'm definitely going to try and see what I can do with it. I know the fabric itself has a great degree of stretch so I'm not too worried that it can't be achieved. But I figured I'd share it in case any mers who bought a SunTail, FinFun Mermaid Tail or even a MagicTail or Delfina Tail could use if you already have a large mono in you want to use.

I am excited to see how your experiment goes! I have a mahina, and have been looking at options for fabric skins that can go over it.
I am also very much in love with the fabrics design for the Aurora Borealis skin.

I very much hope everything works out for you. I will be looking forward to any updates you have :)

I really hope so too. If it works I may start modifying more tail skins :) I've looked into working with a Celtic Green Fin-Fun tail to make it a little more Ariel-sequel :)

Oooo that one looks so pretty!
There are too many pretty tail skins, if I had all the money I would have one for every day of the month!
I am so excited :)

I am so glad to see you posting this. I too have a Mahina fin, and I was just researching for a skin that would go over it. Forgive me if the answer is obvious, (I have zero experience with the fabric tails.) but did you somehow close up the bottom to get the fabric to stretch over the Mahina? Or did it just fit perfectly without any extra help?

You almost got it, I was planning on cutting the fluke into the shape of the fin itself and then sealing it up. I know the technique works well with MagicTail skins. I was going to experiment with two different companies tail skins to see which one works a little bit better.

Suntails will be for my own personal tail and then I wanted to try it with a FinFun Celtic Green as well to see if it would work out

I'll be actually buying my skin soon ;D I'm going to kind of upload as I go while I'm working on it. I just have to pick up my check from work tomorrow afternoon
