Hi everyone! I wanted to start a thread for Mermaid Weekend in Sacramento! The weekend run from May 18th-21st and we have a LOT of fun stuff planned. We are so excited to announce that the Dive Bar (https://www.facebook.com/DiveBarSacramento/) is collaborating with Mermaid Hyli (https://www.facebook.com/MerHyli/) and J.Berendt Photography (https://www.facebook.com/jberendtphotography/) to bring you an exclusive Mermaid Weekend in Sacramento (https://www.facebook.com/MermaidWeekendInSacramento/) opportunity! Never before has the Dive Bar tank been open to the public for photo shoots, but Dive is offering four slots for experienced mermaids and underwater models to capture beautiful images in the stunning Dive Bar tank.

When purchase your shoot slot, you receive a safety orientation, two hour photo shoot, and modeling coaching from Mermaid Hyli as well as 5 professionally edited images for your use.

Not asking for myself as it's a little far, but what exactly constitutes as an "experienced mermaid?" You've mentioned it multiple times, so does that pertain to how long they've been a mermaid or how many gigs they've had? Type of tail?

Hi Ashe, for our photoshoot in the tank, that means mermaids who have spent time in their tails (silicone, fabric or otherwise) and are comfortable swimming in them :)

Join Robert Short (https://www.facebook.com/robert.short.771) and Dark Tide Productions (https://www.facebook.com/DarkTideProductionsLLC/) for an afternoon at the historic Colonial Theater, screening the iconic mermaid film - Splash.

Before the free screening, Academy Award winner Robert Short will give a lecture about his experiences supervising the fx creations in the film, including building the tail that has inspired generations of modern mermaids.

Short Q+A session to follow screening! Doors open at 12:30 PM. This is a free screening, but we are accepting optional $10 donations at the door for wonderful Robert's time.

The Sacramento Promenade of Mermaids team has organized an amazing river clean up with the American River Parkway Foundation to kick off Mermaid Weekend in Sacramento. Join us as we give back to the waterways of Sacramento. It's what true mermaids do!

Come one, come all! Mermaids, mermen, pirates and all sea creatures. All are welcome to Promenade with us along the charming boardwalks of Old Town Sacramento! (We are steampunk friendly and encourage all things nautical or whimsical.)

Please join us for the 7th Annual Promenade of Mermaids!
The Promenade will begin and end in Riverfront Park at 1000 Front Street in Old Town Sacramento (http://sacramentomermaids.com/promenade-route/) (just north of the Old School House) on SATURDAY, May 20th, 2017. We begin assembling by noon and commence the Promenade at 1pm.
You are not required to register to promenade with us. In fact we have done away with pre-registration altogether. Those that wish to be considered for costume prizes need only show up by noon to get an entrant number. This year all child & Adult entrants are free. Look for our donation chest on the registration table which allows for better prizes and helps to pay for all the fantastic freebies we are adding for the children this year.

Pre-Promenade activities in the park begin at noon and culminate at 4pm. Attractions include: The Dive Bar Mermaids & Mermen photo booth, Pixie Tribe face painting & GIANT bubbles, Merman Alfonso’s handmade mermaid treasures in his Merman’s Grotto, Pirates of Sacramento’s monkey cannon arcade. Sarah Armstrong-Garner author of “Sinking” (The first book of a Mermaid adventure trilogy) will be on hand for book signing. Artist Jon Lowe’s Mermaid paintings, and much more. There will be Mermaids, Mermen & Pirates aplenty as well as sea creatures of every persuasion.

Prizes will be awarded for BEST COSTUME for both adult and child entrants as well as some miscellaneous categories, to be announced. Judging will be administered by this years King and Queen, who will be chosen at random before the march begins.
