Hey again!
Not trying to be the fish police but eh, what can I do besides surf the net when menopause won't let me sleep!
These look interesting. I can't tell if they're fabric or silicone though, so my title for it could be wrong. They flow like fabric but looks different.

I think they're fabric! :) 59 Bucks would barely pay for a tenth of the required silicone.
Also, how much is it ok to copy existing designs? These are literally identical to finfolk tails. From the fluke shape, the veins, the scale shape and size, the lining of the scales right up to the bright, saturated colour scheme and paint style. Is it too much?

I see they are back at it again. Someone posted about them a while ago. They are stealing the image/design of the tail and printing it onto fabric and selling it.

This is so wrong. But creative license is a very difficult thing to regulate. Even though they are stealing designs from FinFolk, there is very little legal ground under which action can be taken. It's infuriating.
I wonder if FinFolk get their work copyrighted in some way to protect themselves?

Unfortunately, you cannot copyright a design. However, its possible that if they are using photographs that the twins took, the rights to those photos could protect the designs, but if they are recreating the tails digitally there is nothing they can do.

I figured that would be the case.

The website is kind of sketchy looking too. Misspellings, there's nothing except 1 item and that's 'discounted' from 30$ to 3$. The tails in the video do look like blatant ripoffs of finfolks silicone tails. I wouldn't be surprised if the twins already know about it.

While I think the tails are very beautiful, it makes me sad that they're blatantly selling tails that look just like FinFolk tails...

I agree...before I watched the video, I thought they were FinFolk's tails and then I realised they were too flat. They are beautiful tails, but it's very wrong to sell them. I hope the twim's gain justice in the matter.

I thought the designs looked familiar but wasn't sure.

Yeah, they have taken actual pictures of FinFolk tails and the printed the designs onto fabric and selling them as their own work. Talk about sketchy!

Okay, so I did a little digging into the website. I was looking to see if they mentioned anything about the designs not being theirs. I went to their blog section where it tells about the owner Emma. (I will put the picture below). It never mentions anything about them being FinFolks designs, in fact, she takes credit for all the designs!!!

Sorry for the double post: I am also leaving a review on their tails alerting others to the intellectual theft. Hopefully it sticks.

I just visited the website and they've taken down the mermaid tails that were listed up there... Seems very fishy to me.

Hmmm. *strokes imaginary beard* Fishy indeed. Since we know they have done this before, it's probably not an attack of conscience; rather they are probably regrouping and setting up at another site. 🤔

You are probably right. I was just on the website last night and there were several tails listed in series, one on sell, and one that didn't look like a FinFolk copycat. There was also a monofin and several blankets, but all the other section were empty. I just went back and the monofin and tail section were both empty.

Sent from my ShellPhone using Tapatalk What did the monofins look like? Did they look flimsy or were they rip offs of Finis monofins? Either way, it wouldn't be surprising. :/

They looked like this:

But I am pretty sure the header said something about Finis on her website...

Sent from my ShellPhone using Tapatalk Ah, thanks :) That does look like the finis wave but I wonder how much propulsion it has. It looks like its been cut too far in the middle but has a nice shape.

That's what I was thinking. I emailed the company and ask what kind of monofins they used, mostly because I wanted to see if they would reply. They did suprsingly. I am going to assume they are out of Asia as in the blog she stated how a silicone tail was 2,500 yuan and the English in the email reply wasn't the best.

Sent from my ShellPhone using Tapatalk They've used a FinFolk tail template. Since this fraudulent tailmaker is from Asia, I think they've been talked about on Mernetwork before, but was a while back. I also noticed that the monofins they use in the tails don't have as many ridges as the Wave or the Rapid which probably means another Asian company has been making direct copies of Finis monofins and selling them as their own.. It seems to be a recurring thing.

What a shame. If someone actually produced fabric tails like this of their own design I'd be over the moon (talk about realistic, not to mention beautiful). Just think how much money she could actually make if it was her own work!

Yeah, but why bother with creating your own when you can just steal something from someone else?:thumbdown::mad::anger explode::soap box::headdesk:

Hey guys, quick update. The user responded to my comment on youtube, I'll attach a screencap because they have since deleted the video. I do however call BS on their reply. If they hadn't known the tail designs belonged to FinFolk then ALL of their swimmable tails would not have been FinFolk's. Wish I had taken screencaps at the time when the tails were still listed. Did anyone else?

Stupid! How can she not know? All you need to do is type, mermaid tails, into google, and ALL of them show up. Both silicone ones and fabric. You can even sort by one or the other.
From what I saw of her videos before she removed them, the monofin, if any, is one giant piece, not the two pieces she showed on your phone. When she swam and turned, the fluke just goes up and down. In a proper tail, when mers turn, the fluke turns but also move other ways. The fluke tips do their own thing etc. I hope you understand what I mean, its hard to describe. But with hers, it doesn't.

I don't think she really meant to cause a problem. Whether or not that is true I am not sure. The flukes on the design she showed is still really similar to FinFolks, but she did remove the designs for that reason...

Maybe suggest a way to do a little research before making the tail. Cos it just seems like she just basing every design on FinFolk's

Hm. It seems we may be able to give her the benefit of the doubt. But I agree that most of her designs are very FinFolk-y, which makes me suspicious.

I definitely agree with you all, but if you really think about it, FinFolk's tails intrigued the mer community from their start and everyone fell in love with them. Maybe she just saw that all her clients where asking for those tails and that they were popular, so she just started making them up without really thinking.

I think that's the case too, ever since I saw FinFolk's tails, I was just amazed at how beautiful they are. They never cease to impress!
