New Facebook Shoot: Glamour (Mer)Girl

I am wearing Mermaid Minerals eyeshadow and lip gloss in these pics(thanks to all who voted for me for February's Mermaid of the Month"), my headdress was made by RaNdOm the Lake Michigan Mermaid, and most of my pearls once belonged to my 90-something great-grandmother. My top is a Barely There bra and my lei is from Party City.

What do you mers HONESTLY think of the pink Barely There bra I've always used as my mer-top? Someone on FB told me that it's so obviously a bra, a very personal article of clothing, that when people see my pics they're like "look, a bra!" and it could send the wrong message. I explained to her how my mermaiding is done on a shoestring budget and I often just make do with what I have, and it isn't supposed to represent a human woman's undergarment, it's meant to represent a mer-top, and just like with my fabric tail you need to suspend your belief.

I understand that it is meant to be a mer-top. Many tops other mers have made were bra-based. Ignore those who are only in the mindset of "look! a bra!" They have great difficulty getting out of that mindset. If it really bugs you, could you get some lion paw shells from the craft store and glue them on to the bra?

I didn't think it was a bra immediately, I thought it was just a top - in my honest opinion though, I think it's a little bit plain. You could decorate it really cheaply and easily with some beads or even scraps of fabric glued or sewn on, I think scraps of purple sparkly fabric cut jagged and uneven would have a really good effect!

The thing is, I'm really un-crafty, do to my poor motor skills thanks to AS, so I'm pretty much limited to what I can buy pre-made. I looked at every store within a 10-mile radius for a shimmery purple bikini top or bra that would complement my tail, and I couldn't fine a single top that I felt was an improvement over my pink bra. I've looked on Etsy and eBay for mermaid tops, but I haven't found many that I thought would go good with my tail, be fairly modest, AND pretty cheap. You could get some glue, spread it over the bra, either all over or in a pattern you like, and then just shake some glitter over it :) you wouldn't need super motor skills for that.

I love your tail! And you look like you are having a lot of fun in your photo-shoot! Props to you! I love Mermaid minerals makeup! What color eyeshadow were you wearing?
When it comes to mermaid tops its hard to wear something that doesn't look like a human bra, but my personal feeling is, if its not see though and you have the attitude to rock it.... than wear it! Personally I always try and add a personal touch to my tops weather it is gluing on shells, glitter or something. A personal touch always makes things stand out! Also if you have a friend talented in a way that can help, dont be afraid to ask for help. I love pieces that have a story behind them like your pearls!
