Hey guys;
I'm an aspiring mermaid from the west coast of Canadia-land, hailing from Vancouver Island (specifically Victoria). Growing up I was always encouraged to indulge my imagination and creativity-since we didn't have a lot of money we spent a lot of time doing things that didn't cost a lot; whole summers spent in lakes and rivers, hiking and exploring the woods where we lived. I've always loved being on or in the water--despite several near-drownings as a child--and that hasn't gone away as I've gotten older. It only seemed natural to me to pretend to be a mermaid, though I have never actually attempted to make a swim-capable tail of my own. I honestly didn't realize that swim-tails were a thing until a few years ago, though I admit I wasn't surprised at all once I saw them.
I mean of COURSE you can swim in a tail.
I've always wanted to be a mermaid (or a dragon, but that's a lot harder) and have decided recently to pursue that. I haven't got my first monofin yet, and can't decide if I'm going to buy a tail, make a tail, save up for a silicone tail or make my own silicone tail but I figure at least a monofin is a good place to start. I'm super stoked to spend more time in the water and get my fin and tail. I don't have a mer-name as yet, but I've been thinking about it.
Other than becoming a mermaid, I also rock-climb, kayak, hike, solo camp and backpack, have recently taken up surfing (and I LOVE IT) and am an amateur (self-taught and still learning) costume designer and makeup artist. I hope to make a lot of new friends and have fun and learn more about the art of mermaiding and maybe also learn to free-dive (from someone who knows what they're doing and never on my own or unsupervised).
Nice to meet you all!
