Hello! I absolutely love this website! I've been poking around on different threads for about a month now but I never got around to the introduce yourself page, so I guess better late than never, right?

I'm 15 years old (only for another month!) and I've been into mermaiding for about 8 months now, starting when a friend of mine let me try her suntail mermaid monofin (SUPER comfortable, by the way. I totally recommend it for beginners). Since then, I've purchased one along with a fabric tail, and a month later my mom got one too. We go to the gym to swim just about every other weekend.

About 3 months ago, I started building my first silicone tail!! It's been a super long and complicated project so far but progress is coming along. My father has been a super big help, and we're actually planning on making it 100% silicone, with carbon fiber rods to support the fluke instead of a monofin. I can give pictures if anyone likes :p

Welcome Sophy its awesome that your mom mermaids with you, my mom would love to but because of some trauma she has never fully learned how to swim even though I've been instructing her for years, as soon as she cant feel the bottom when she reaches for it she panics. I wish you good luck on your tail making journey, maybe you should post your progress on the tail making section for people to follow.

Hello! It's so awesome that you have someone to mermaid with! I'd love to see some pictures of the process of making your tail. I still find it amazing how people can make silicone tails, and so I love to watch the process. I'm always excited to see what colour schemes everyone comes up with as well. It's nice to meet ya!

Welcome to the mernetwork. That is awesome the family is getting into mermaiding. Though I live in Florida, what part of Vermont are you from? My hometown is Bennington and I know that the local gym/rec center allows mermaid tails even though I haven't had a chance to go on vacation there to use my tail since I got into mermaiding.

Welcome to the pod!
That is so cool that your family is so involved! It makes it so much more fun when people who are important share your passions.
Please make a thread on your tail build! I'm very interested to see how you build the fluke in particular!
:D

Thank you all!! It is extremely nice to have a family that supports mermaiding My dad has been a huge help with this whole process as well, and I've coaxed my little brother into trying a monofin as well (he kind of liked it!).

I live in northern Vermont, and our state is so small you can basically get anywhere you want to in the state in just a few hours. We swim at the edge fitness center, which I think is a chain only in the northeast. (Or maybe just Vermont. I dunno.) I've never had a problem taking my tail there and little kids love me!! They always sort of stare from a distance until I can convince them to come over and chat. (Sometimes they even like rides!) People in general are really chill about me, I've only ever received positive comments and questions regarding my tail.

In other words... VT= 110% mermaid friendly!

I'll start a new thread about the silicone tail, it will probably take me a bit to figure it out. Ha!
