New tail help

Hey guys, so i had this thought. Has anyone every tried using just fabric for the leg portion of you tail, and then painting your fluke? I found a great fabric for thr leg portion, and i was wanting to paint on spandex for my fluke then sew it all together. Does that sound possible?
